The DeWALT 12V MAX Drill Driver makes a great professional tool for home and do it yourself work as well as contractor tough jobs with several handy features. The lithium powered tool has a dual torque transmission for the drill and driver as well as an LED light right under the chuck.
The DeWALT 12V MAX 3/8” Drill Driver Kit includes the DeWALT 12 volt drill driver, two 12 volt MAX lithium ion battery packs, fast charger and a contractor bag. My review sample did not include the contractor bag but the drill drivers and the rest were all there and very impressive.
The high visibility yellow of the DeWALT tool makes it easy to find on the job and the LED light right under the chuck makes finding your work spot a great feature. The LED is bright enough to use as a flashlight in a pinch as well as being handy for finding the spot you’re working on.
The LED light comes on with a half press of the trigger and when the drill runs with a full press the light stays on, the light can be used even when the forward reverse is in the middle position. The push button forward reverse switch above the trigger is a through body switch for the forward reverse of the drill and in the middle does not allow the motor to turn but does allow the light to come on.
The DeWALT MAX drill driver has a two speed system with 0 to 400 and 0 to 1,500 rpm speeds with low torque for driving screws and high torque for drilling. The drill uses a 3/8 inch chuck so common size drill and driver bits fit as well as bits like hole saws and wood boring bits.
The DeWALT drill driver is a compact size and works great around the home, garage and shop for common household jobs and do it yourself repairs. The 12 volt lithium ion drill makes a fantastic at home drill driver with its two battery packs and fast charger but is powerful enough for contractor grade work.
The batteries easily install on the bottom of the driver and clip in using the large clip that makes removal easy even if your hands are slippery. The battery packs may be smaller but pack a punch with lithium ion technology, the lithium ion is the best battery technology for the longest lasting charge of a rechargeable battery.
The included fast charger takes about 40 minutes to charge a fully dead battery and less when you are topping off a battery after use. The battery charger is a simple slide on battery pack charger that can be set on a table and has LED indicators for empty, charging and fully charged.
The drill has a dial on the head behind the chuck that has a number system for low to high speeds with a full on drill speed and the two position switch to change the tool from low to high torque. The chuck is a hand tightening chuck that clicks into place on bits and holds very well considering it tightens only by hand pressure.
The handle has a rubber grip for comfortable holding and has four rubber bumpers on the body on each side so you can set the drill down and not scratch the surface. The belt clip is removable so you can use it on either side with a simple screw holding it on or you can remove it altogether.
I have a test with drills and drivers where I drive in 4 inch screws into wood to see how many I can drive in fully and was pretty impressed with the DeWALT driver. I was able to fully drive in 28 four inch deck screws into a 4x4 and only ran out of torque for the 29th which is pretty impressive for the little drill.
I have been using the drill driver around the house for small and large jobs like hanging some pictures and building a new photo table for my picture taking. I have had no problems and really am impressed with the little driver to be able to drive four inch screws fully even with the smaller battery pack.
I have had no problems with the DeWALT drill driver and am pretty impressed with the compact and handy tool that works well for many different jobs. I have had no problems with all kinds of jobs like installing sink cabinets and my table for taking photos at with two by four and four by four legs and having screws going deep into both sizes of wood.
The DeWALT 12V MAX drill driver has enough power and torque to bore holes using wood boring bits through my floor joists and walls while installing an outlet and Ethernet cable out to my porch. I have really enjoyed using the handy and comfortable DeWALT drill driver for this review and highly recommend it as a professional grade household tool for use in the home and shop.
