This meant either a lot of practice in the cockpit dropping bombs on practice targets or a lot of luck for some pilots in countries that did not have the expense account the U.S. does. Dropping bombs on targets is not the only part of Strike Fighters but it is one of the most gratifying with the second being knocking an enemy plane out of the sky.
I guess it would be third as just surviving an encounter is also pretty fun and worthy of a congratulatory nod or back slap at least as the AI is pretty good in these games. Strike Fighters has the usual campaign with several mission types such as ground attacks, suppression and air to air combat.
There is also a good single mission play section and a jump into the hot spots with an instant action mission where you simply are given a plane and have to fend off attackers pretty much right off the bat. The campaign is fun to try your luck at a career as a pilot and the single missions allow you to pick and choose the time period and mission types so there is plenty of variety.
The game comes complete with three aircraft for the player to fly in the game; the American A-4, F-4 and F-100 but you can also download and install a host of user created planes from various websites. All the planes that worked in the first Strike Fighters should work in this one as well so there is a lot to add from the community.
I visited several of the sites and used a few different aircraft but some just seems like cheating in this game with its utter lack of modern computers in your enemy aircraft. If you choose some of the more modern craft with computers the game uses them as it would any other aircraft device and give you that great advantage in combat.
I tried out an A-10 Warthog and had fun bashing on anti aircraft vehicles and tanks around an airport easily with sight targeting so the computer does all the work. While this may be cheating in the eyes of some it just adds to the fun and versatility of a video game that is so well made.
Strike Fighters 2 is a single person game without any multiplayer section but does well on its own with a good campaign, single player section and quick jump in instant combat action as well as being able to easily add in user created content. The games AI does a pretty good job of giving you a run for your money and with a good selection of user controlled simulation difficulty and AI pilot skill you have a good game here.
Strike Fighters 2 is a great combat flight sim game and well worth a look if you have not flown the first iteration or for your newer Vista computer if you have the first project.
