Large Software Password Manager

Every once in a very great while a program or piece of hardware comes along that works perfectly and does exactly what it is supposed to and then some. Password Manager from Large Software is just this program and it works so well it wins my Blue Ribbon for Excellence.

Password Manager is a simple yet effective program that handles logon names and passwords simply and easily yet securely for you so you don’t have to keep entering them every time. When you have the program installed all you have to do is enter a log on name or user name and password for any web site and Password Manager will remember it.

These websites use a specific code for names and passwords that the program recognizes so when you insert words and numbers or characters into a password box the program is activated and inputs a new account. Each account is assigned the website you are at for entry, the name of the user name or whatever information you are filling in as well as the password.

When you have this created the program stores it for future use so whenever you go back to the site it fills in the boxes and opens the site or clicks enter on the logon or enter box automatically. This may sound complicated but it is much easier than that, install the program which takes a minute or so and enter a master password.

You should write down this master password for future reference in case you forget it or if you frequently use the lock function but you need not bother with others. When you have installed the program and go to a site or webpage that has a password on it simply type in your username and password on the website page.

The program will open a box in the corner of your screen above your taskbar and ask you if you want to save this password, simply answer yes or no. If you have saved the password information the program will store the name and password website and link to the site in its file location on your C drive.

You can use your favorites to return to sites in the future as well as the account list in the Password Manager program form the icon in the task bar. Simply right click the task bar icon for Password Manager and you go to accounts and every password and username you have entered will be listed.

Passwords are secure in this program from accidental reveals by dotting the characters while working in the program so some passerby cannot accidentally see them. You can see them when you click on a button in the account if you need to or want to work with them.

You actually have to click on a button in the accounts page to see the passwords so no accidental revealing in public when you are working out in the open. Now how about a lock for all passwords and the program in general, this is that Master Password I mentioned earlier.

When you load the program you create a master password that will unlock the program after locking it, if you’re in a work environment or at home and don’t trust others on your computer you can lock the program. The Master Password will unlock the program for use but it will also allow changes to the program but if you think you can around things guess again.

I tried a little hacking and could not do much with the program other than delete it, you can uninstall the program but there goes all the passwords. If you reinstall it and use the backup or tell the uninstall program to not delete the user files it creates you can just install the program and be back at exactly the position you were in before the uninstall.

This means when you install the program it will use the backed up user file and restore the old password management and all the passwords will be back including the master password. That means no looking into your accounts if you lock it, leave and someone else gets on your computer and starts to snoop around.

The Master Password is a nice feature for those work computers and even laptops you take with to the internet café or coffee shop. The program has its own encryption to prevent unauthorized use of passwords or entry into the program from local hackers and from remote ones using spyware or Trojans.

Password Manager contains password protection in the form of Trojan and spyware protection and detectors so if any malicious program tries anything with password boxes or anything on your program steps will be taken. The program also uses antivirus scanning of program modules that want to access passwords with a simple macro command or linking.

If there is any antivirus program you use simply link the program to the antivirus scanner and it will scan any programs that try to access passwords and the Password Manager program. While this only worked to have my antivirus program open they have templates for a couple of antivirus programs that work well for scanning the command modules being opened.

Dr. Web and Kaspersky are two good antivirus programs and both are available for free from the internet that have command line templates that work well in Password Manager for antivirus scanning of modules. This may mean you need to have two antivirus programs on your computer but it also means additional protection while using Password Manager if you want it.

Simply download and install either Dr Web’s Cureit or Kaspersky’s Antivirus 6.0 for the utmost protection while using the Password Manager program. The templates for each program are in the Settings page under Password Protection and have a little clickable button that fills in the lines for you.

Simply open and turn on Password Protection and enter the scan template after the file name entry and you will have the two choices to enter. This will fill in the file name and program commands so you don’t have to search for them yourself or if you are not sure what they are talking about.

You can also ask the company, Large Software for the command lines for your particular antivirus program and they may be able to help you. At the very least you can always download the free antivirus protection from the two companies, Dr Web and Kaspersky and use theirs.

Password Manager is about the easiest to use program with very intuitive password entry detection and easy to use one click addition of password username entries. One great feature is the use of two accounts from a single website like bank accounts, it has numerous entries so if you do have more than one account you can always use the right click and accounts to enter whichever account you want.

This is the easiest and best program I have seen for managing passwords and one I will continue to use long after this review is finished. No higher praise can be said of any program than the fact that I use it not for the review but for its simple convenience, Password Manager is that good.
