Wings Over Israel

I truly enjoy a game that not only comes with a full campaign, single mission gaming and instant action as well as abilities to create your own content or download others. Being able to easily and quickly install other aircraft, missions, campaigns or just individual weapons or new skins makes the game that much better.

The single missions give you the chance to pick your aircraft, mission type and weapons and go to town against random enemies or the amount you choose. You also have the instant action that just puts you into the cockpit in a hotspot for some quick and intense action that really gives you a lot of practice.

The instant action combined with the ability to dumb down the AI some using the Easy difficulty allows you to train at your combat flying so you have a chance against the much better AI or even fellow pilots. You can play against others if you have their IP address but the multiplayer is a bit scarce on all the ThirdWire games with Wings Over Israel no exception.

ThirdWire has done a great job of creating an easy training tool in the instant action as well as a tough antagonist in the more normal and hard difficulty settings and the choice to even get more in depth in customized difficulty is here as well. You can choose the customize section to change difficulty settings of things like radar, HUD, and ammo usage for even more value to your gaming.

Night Mission

The graphics and effects are really well done for such a small company and compare very much with Microsoft’s Flight Sim X for both the aircraft and the ground graphics and textures. The aircraft look good as well as having good flight characteristics that I would say are very close to the real thing.

The sound is also very realistic and it is quite amazing such as  when you are passed closely by an aircraft you can actually hear them come and go with very realistic sounds. The sound effects damage and even little things like damage in your mirrors and objects in your mirrors are very well done.

I was actually very pleased as well as quite surprised at the level of complexity and realism for this combat sim game and have to really recommend you check out this or one of the other combat flight sims from ThirdWire. While Wings Over Israel does not fully support Windows Vista you can run it on a Vista computer with a few simple corrections to your computer if it doesn’t run outright from the start.

Highly Detailed Cockpit

I had no problem running the game on my Windows Vista computer right from initial installation of the core game and the latest update worked equally as well. If you do have problems running the game for any reason there is a full community with plenty of help ready to give a hand if you need it as well as help form ThirdWire who are very good at customer service being a small company. On the forums at ThirdWire a few people have put up a few tweaks in order to run Wings Over Israel on a Vista computer and will be more than willing to help if you are having problems with their suggestions or any other help for that matter.

Wings Over Israel is a great game and well worth the $20 cost but is only available from ThirdWire as a download, you do get the updates that the company has been working on routinely even for their first products so getting fixes and occasional performance improvements are assured. You also have the great community of modders who are going about their usual business of supplying a wide variety of additional content to the game including new planes, missions and campaigns as well as improvements to the game.

Wings Over Israel is a great combat flight simulator ranging from 1964 to 1982 with plenty of action in those almost modern and modern jet fighters. Wings Over Israel works very well and has plenty of action and some very good AI for realism and varied difficulty.
