The Rock Collection

The Rock or also known as Dwayne Johnson is a pretty good film star who has played some good and bad characters as well as some good and bad movies for a pretty varied acting career. A good part of Dwayne Johnson’s career has revolved around wrestling and various movies, television performances and other parts revolving around the world of wrestling.

Dwayne Johnson has played in about seven movies as a major character along with several television and cable TV show appearances along with dozens of appearances in wrestling related film and TV shows. Dwayne Johnson has one thing going for him from the start with his good looks but is also a pretty good actor that can do well with parts that require actual brains above the usual good looks.

While he has not played many very smart or well liked roles he has used his physique and assumed mentality to turn roles around and use them to his advantage such as Agent 23 in Get Smart. He has been nominated for a smaller acting award for the Favorite Movie Actor at the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards but is better remembered for his varied and numerous awards and accolades in professional wrestling.

The Rundown has the Rock playing a professional bounty hunter that works for a mobster and is trying to square things so he can move on in life. Beck, Dwayne Johnson, is a full time bounty hunter or general go getter for a mobster who just really wants to cook and open his own restaurant.

While waiting for a mark to come out of a bar he is listening to cooking shows and taking notes dreaming of a day when he can open his own restaurant. Enter Sean William Scott who plays Travis Walker, the son of mobster Billy Walker, who is just trying to get away from his dads overbearing rule over his life.

Travis is trying to find his future using luck instead of using crime to earn a living so is hunting down a priceless artifact in the jungles of South America. Travis has fled the life of crime only to end up in the middle of a worse situation with a local crime lord who is using local villagers to mine gold in the Amazon.

When Beck gets into the village he calls on the local crime boss, Cornelius Hatcher played by Christopher Walken, to ensure peaceful happenings while Beck retrieves Travis from the village. Hatcher at first lets Beck take him for a small fee and then changes his mind when he finds out that Travis is looking for a large gold idol.

Travis tries to elude Beck when he finds Travis at the only bar in town and Beck takes Travis in hand cuffs but is stopped by Hatcher. Beck defeats several of Hatcher’s men and the two rush off into the jungle on their way back to civilization.

Through several escapes and recaptures and with the help of a local girl they do end up getting the idol but only to have it stolen by the girl, Mariana played by Rosario Dawson. She gets captured by Hatcher so Travis and Beck rescue her and the whole town by finally going against Becks motto of never using guns.

The Rundown is a great movie and easily the best of the collection with plenty of action interspersed with a lot of humor. Beck is a great character and has that great quality of even though being a bad guy working for a mobster only wants to get out of the business and live happily ever after.

The Blu-ray edition of The Rundown comes with plenty of extras including the usual commentary, several making of filming features and on location scenes. One interesting fact of their final filming location happened in South America when the crew was held up at gunpoint their first day of shooting so they shot the film in a much safer Hawaii.

The Rundown has a lot of good extras with plenty of interesting and funny features added that makes it a good deal for a Blu-ray movie. The Rundown is a great film with plenty of funny action that is great on the Blu-ray edition with the awesome video and audio to give you a complete and entertaining movie.

The Scorpion King is actually a sequel to the beginning of The Mummy that shows how the Scorpion King begins his rule of power 500 years before the events in the Mummy. The Rock plays the Scorpion King before he is actually known as this later in history. Mathayus is an Akkadian mercenary and he and his two brothers are paid to kill a sorcerer in the service of Memnon, a ruthless leader out to rule the world.

Memnon rules his empire by killing everyone who opposes him as well as having a forewarning of events using a sorceress named Cassandra played by Kelly Hu. Memnon knows of the attempt against Cassandra through the son of the tribal ruler who pays the Akkadian’s to kill her.
