Boog the bear and Elliot the huge antlered deer are back in the computer animated sequel Open Season 2 and Elliot starts the film off being so very proud of his new rack. Elliot and friends are back but this season he is slated to marry Giselle who really does not care much about his large antlers but is more interested in Elliot as a person, er mate.
Elliot ends up accidentally breaking off his antlers before the ceremony and ends up thinking Giselle will not accept him now that he is back to his old one antlered self. Giselle is in love with Elliot and wants him no matter how his antlers look but first they are side tracked by the disappearance of Mr. Weenie who has wandered off and been captured by his previous owners.
In Open Season Mr. Weenie escaped his captivity from owners Bob and Bobby to join Boog and Elliot in the woods and has been recaptured back to his life of obedience. During the wedding ceremony Elliot sees Mr. Weenie being whisked away by Bob and Bobby and stops the wedding to rescue his friend.
The group including Boog, Elliot, Giselle, Mr. Squizzy and Buddy take off to rescue Mr. Weenie but Elliot of course messes things up. When Elliot insists on going in one direction the group lead by Giselle goes the obviously easy way toward the rapidly disappearing RV with Bob, Bobby and Mr. Weenie.
The group of pets that get together each year at the spa complements of their owners are happy to see Mr. Weenie back and will fight for their friend to remain as part of their group. In the aftermath of the woodland friends trying to rescue Mr. Weenie from the oppressive but fun loving owners and their pets the group of woodland creatures end up creating havoc in the Pet Spa.
The spa is a high security fortress due to recent incursions by wildlife but for the pets it is a Disneyland of fun and full tummies. Hilarious antics follow as Boog tries to impersonate a sheep dog to infiltrate the spa and rescue his friend Mr. Weenie but Elliot beats him to find out how he can help Mr. Weenie.
In a decisive sneak attack Boog tries to rescue Mr. Weenie from the spa and alerts everyone that a bear is on the loose in the spa. Elliot also tries his best to rescue his four legged friend only to have the entire park in an uproar over the bear on the premises.
In the end they do rescue Mr. Weenie but only to find out he actually wants to stay with his old owners and misses the high life of begging for food and other owner perks. The group of woodland creatures led by Elliot and Boog return home where Elliot and Giselle finally do get married and live happily ever after in the woods.
Open Season 2 is a pretty good computer animation movie but not good enough to do well at theatres, it was released on DVD and Blu-ray in the United States and other countries. Open Season 2 did release in a few countries in theatres such as South Africa and Russia but I am not sure if they actually made a profit on the film.
The Blu-ray edition includes several bonus features including a Weenie game, a voice cast feature, a tutorial on how to draw some of the characters from the film and a music video. The extra features add a little to the film but not all that much, I have seen more on other Blu-ray editions and others with much less.
I think the main thing with Open Season 2 is the fact that it does include some of the same great computer animation and a storyline different enough that it works well but it does not have all the same voice actors. I think this is why they went directly to DVD in the United States and other countries as too many people are looking for the same voices that make up the first movie.
Open Season 2 does a good enough job but with the change in voices it may be a little bit of a letdown, but not enough in my opinion to totally skip this film. Open Season 2 has plenty of laughs and fun for kids of all ages and the Blu-ray version does have the great video and audio of the higher definition movie.
Open Season 2 has enough that it is worth purchasing for a great computer animation film with the same loving characters from the first movie. The Blu-ray edition does have more content but it is geared more towards kids than adults so you may want to purchase the Blu-ray for kids.
Open Season 2 is plenty of fun with the same characters and a good story even for a sequel and you do get plenty of poor rabbit fun in this film as well.
