One year has passed for the Pevensie children since their adventures in Narnia and they have become restless in their returned youth. To have lived more than 15 years in Narnia and then be thrust back to childhood may not be everyone’s dream come true with the fact that they were treated as kings and queens.
Now back in England with growing tensions of World War II the children are once again returned to the magical land of Narnia but things are not the same. More than 1300 years have passed for the world of Narnia and the kings and queens that Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy were is almost a myth in the land.
Humans now rule most of the area that was once the forests and the magical creatures only venture forth from their hiding when no humans are near. Some animals have even reverted back to their wilder sides as many have spent so long away from each other they have forgotten how to talk.
The children return to their castle Cair Paravel where they once ruled to find the runes but hidden away are still their great treasures and weapons. They seek to find out what has happened in the intervening years and thus begins their adventures in the tale of Prince Caspian.
Prince Caspian is one of the last in the line of successors to the throne of the Telmarine’s or humans of the area and is almost assassinated by his uncle who wants the throne for himself. In his flight Prince Caspian blows the magical horn of Queen Susan that she left behind when they traveled back to the real world in The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.
This calls the children back to Narnia and begins their adventure to help Prince Caspian claim his right to the throne and bring peace back to Narnia between the magical creatures and the Telmarine humans. A few old friends are back and new ones are introduced in Prince Caspian with its great mix of CGI with real acting and special effects.
The film Prince Caspian continues the great series written by C.S Lewis more than fifty years ago and is brought to life with such vivid spectacle. The film is a great one and definitely worth getting if you are at all familiar with the stories and first movie.
If you plan on purchasing the film at all I would recommend not even bothering with the one disc version as the added features of the 3-Disc Collector’s Edition and the 3-Disc Blu-ray Edition give you so much more. The DVD collector’s edition and the Blu-ray edition are both fantastic and have a digital copy as well as a whole disc of added features.
Both versions have the movie itself with Dolby Digital Sound and the Blu-ray being in high definition with DTS-HD high resolution audio. Both versions contain a digital copy so you can enjoy the movie from your computer as well as the disc version.
