WALL-E, Waste Allocation Lift Loader Earth-class falls in love with the first robot he sees, but she quickly moves on with her work and ignores him. WALL-E chases her to the ends of the galaxy in his attempt at finding a solution to the all too human problem of loneliness.
WALL-E is about the last robot on earth, when all the people leave to wait for the Buy n Large Corporation to have the planet cleaned up they leave behind robots to do the job. But years later, some 700 to be exact, the planet is worse than ever without plants or animals except for a couple.
WALL-E is the last of the robots left behind and he is still dutifully performing his job of crushing up junk into cubes and stacking them up for others to deal with. Problem is there is no one else around so in his loneliness he befriends a cockroach and collects interesting objects.
One day when he chases a red laser point to a clear stretch of ground a space ship lands on top of him to release a sleek and attractive female robot EVE. EVE, Extra-terrestrial Vegetation Evaluator, takes no interest in anything after she scans it for whatever it is she is looking for.
WALL-E follows her around and suddenly she sees him and shoots, but misses and WALL-E tries to befriend her but she is not really interested. During a sandstorm WALL-E leads her back to his home where EVE continues to scan things as WALL-E shows them to her.
WALL-E finally remembers his find the other day and shows her a plant which EVE scans and immediately beams into a cavity and shuts down. WALL-E is frantic and tries his best first to wake EVE then to protect her from the ravages of his world when she does not respond to him.
Days later the space ship returns to pluck EVE away and WALL-E climbs aboard for a whole new adventure after warning his friend cockroach to stay behind. It’s this typical all too human gesture of having cockroach trying to follow WALL-E when he races after EVE then points to the ground for cockroach to stay that adds the feelings and emotion we see throughout the movie.
WALL-E is a great movie with plenty of action and adventure but it is just a love story at heart, but not just any movie. The computer generated imagery has been taken a step beyond what computer animators have done up to this point in animated film.
Using very human gestures they have added a real human quality to all the robots in the film as well as small noises to convey so much emotion and feeling where you would not have expected much at all. That is where this film excels in the animated film category from the previous films with its lack of human voice for a good part of the film in the beginning.
To convey so much human feeling and story the animators and director had to add human qualities to robots for people to like them and understand what the robots were doing. Even better the small noises and gestures give you a very good idea of what the robots are thinking so that you can glean the story from such simple mechanics in a film.
