Super Why

Kids love them, parents not only can tolerate them but will be singing along in no time and educators praise the CGI animated Super Why for its great and entertaining content. The PBS show teaches children ages 3 to 6 using simple reading skills like spelling, pronunciation and phonetics in a way that kids will enjoy.

Super Why is a 2007 CGI animated series that ran for two seasons of fun for kids entertainment and educational programming. There are almost fifty episodes for the two season run that PBS is now airing as repeats depending on your local PBS channel.

The DVD Jack and the Beanstalk and other Fairytale Adventures follows the four Super Readers as they solve problems using reading, spelling and the alphabet as their tools. Audience participation is done through the characters on screen asking the audience to say or do things and then praise the kids at home for attempting the acts.

The characters also ask the kids to write out letters and words as they solve their problems in the story to do things like open a draw bridge by spelling out and saying the words. Kids can follow through the story of Jack and The Beanstalk, Little Red Riding Hood, The Three Little Pigs and The Princess and the Pea as the four main characters’ stories.

The characters all have their own story and background but they all are a part of the Super Why experience that creates a world where kids can help discover and learn while having fun. If your kids have never seen Super Why then you are sure to be in for a treat as kids really love the show that is not one of those annoying shows that parents cannot watch.

I think that is my first criteria for a show that I would have my kids watch, I want to be able to stand the show enough to have my kids watch it but that’s not the only reason I highly recommend Super Why for kids. The kids love this show and I can be sure I know that the wide variety of children do love it as I have a whole day care to prove it.

My wife works in a daycare teaching kids just this age and they just love this show, it is the reason I was actually excited to review the DVD, so they could get it. In the past I have taped some shows for them straight from TV on my computer but the DVD has so much more than just the show in good quality.

There is a whole list of extras including songs from the show, games, and printable activities and coloring pages as well as a fact sheet for parents about the show. When your kid wants to sing along with the music from the show they can do so from a regular music video of the four main songs from the show.

There are four flash player games you can access from the disc that are fun and easy to play but you may have to help younger kids. Little Pig plays a game to help him fill a hole in his brick wall that the Big Bad Wolf may come through. Your child clicks on the letter of the brick Pig points out from three bricks and a correct guess places the brick in the hole.

Storybook Creator lets your child’s imagination run rampant as he changes words in one of the four stories from the DVD so you can be goofy with the story. The child goes from sentence to sentence changing one of the words they have chosen for some fun with words.

This game will be fun a few times but may get boring as the same words are chosen for your child each time in the sentences. Create Your Own Super Hero is another fun game for kids using phonics and spelling to outfit your super hero on screen.

This is a cute spelling dress up game that rewards kids for guessing the correct words that the narrator is saying and then rewards the child with an outfit or accessory. This is a fun game for a few times or if you have not played it much but again these are only simple games played using Flash player so don’t expect much.

Rhyme N Roll is the fourth game that is a side scrolling game with Red Riding Hood rolling along on skates and the child moves Red up and down to hit words that rhyme with the word chosen by the game. The mouse is again used in this game for controlling so it is pretty easy and fun but may get a bit boring after a few times as well.

All the four games are fun and may not entertain for hours but equal a pretty decent group of quick and fun games for your child as an extra bonus to the cartoons. The other activities and coloring pages are fun things you can print out and have your child work on when not on the computer or watching the show that is fun for kids.

There are four activities including Build a Sign, Super Why Guitar, Super Street map and Alphabet Puzzle which are simple activities you can have your child do. The coloring pages are also printable sheets that have the characters from the show and some games they can color and have fun with.

The parent’s guide is a simple page explaining about the show and the shows particulars like the characters and how the show is structured. It just gives some information for parents about the show and how it can help kids learn awhile their having fun.

Super Why Jack and the Beanstalk and other fairy tale adventures is a great collection of four of the Super Why shows that are directly related to the four main characters. Super Why is child’s programming at its best and a must have for any kid ages three to six for a fun and educational time for children.
