Season 3 of Saving Grace throws not only a few twists, a second angel would definitely qualify, but the inevitable end to the series by Grace sacrificing herself for a case. It is inevitable that Grace would die but just how she does ends up being the whole drama of the series and the last three or so episodes deal with her demise.
Saving Grace stars Holly Hunter and Leon Rippy as the angel that Grace Hanadarko has to contend with during her job as homicide detective. Earl, Leon Rippy, is a last chance angel that not only is trying to turn Grace toward God but helps others as well that jump into Grace's life.
In season one Grace was introduced to Earl and came to believe he was not a hallucination while season two saw Earl and Grace deal with the execution of Leon Cooley. Season 3 mainly involves Grace and her death along with her acceptance of God while she is torn between Earl and his style of saving and another angels.
The other angel gives Grace the chance to give herself to god and she will get whatever she wants but she refuses as it just seems to be too easy. Her faith leads her to believe more in Earl than an easy way and when things come to a head the show ends with a bang.
Grace winds up sacrificing herself but you should really watch the show to see how things wind up for the series but I think they did things a bit too oddly. The end of the series came too soon and I really think they were not ready to end it, after all TNT offered for a fourth season.
The shows last three episodes came and went without much fanfare and I think the show could have been pretty good with a fourth season but as things stand the third season is the last. The show was pretty good at the start but things took an odd turn for me in the second season and the third wound up being a disappointment.
I enjoyed the start of Saving Grace and reviewing it but missed most of season 2 due to how the publisher only sent me the last disc of the season for review. The third season I received the full set and watched it all in two days but the last few episodes really did not have much happening that made sense for Grace.
The show had plenty of good acting but with the last few days of Grace and her knowing things were happening that would end with her death her character took a turn. The show ends with her sleeping with the obvious bad guy and it seemed she sold her soul but she did wind up saving the day with her sacrifice.
It just seemed they ended the show a little too abruptly and did not have the time to set things up the way they wanted with the season plot or some such. The end just came too quick for the actors or writers, at least it seemed that way to me and the show just quit without having any good answers to series long questions.
The video for Saving Grace the Final Season was very good and about as good as you could expect from DVD with great color, no grain or problems with video and clear skin tone. The video looks very good throughout the 19 episodes with every disc having vivid color and well done technical aspects.
The video is very well done and audio is also up to a high standard for DVD with 5.1 Dolby Digital surround sound for the sound track that is crisp and clear for voice and good for effects and background music. The surround is well used but with the front heavy audio for voice the surrounds are not used all that much.
The show tends to be more of an action with good use of side or rear but the main emphasis does seem to be on the front so you get more of a front heavy sound field. There is some use of rear speakers but it is not as noticeable with this DVD series as some others I have viewed.
LFE is fine and you do get some low deep bass but most of what you get is an overall well made audio with really no clear or standout areas. This works fine as a good all around technically well made series but you do have one problem and my ratings at the beginning will show it, there are no bonus features at all.
You do get a few trailers for films and TV or cable series but there is absolutely no extras for Saving Grace which is a shame. There could have been a few things added but like so many other shows and movies it seems they are saving the bonus features for later editions and give you nothing here in the final seasons DVD box.
Saving Grace is a mixed bag with the final season being the third in the show and if you enjoyed the previous seasons you just have to get this. If you did not see the others there really is no reason to start in on the final season as you will probably be confused with plot and characters that the previous seasons gave more insight into.
Saving Grace is definitely a show that you have to watch all the seasons to understand and for too many episodes of this last season this is very true. If you have watched Saving Grace in the past this last season is a must but I am truly disappointed with the last few episodes and their lack of the usual Grace Hanadarko style.
