Flicka 2

Flicka 2 continues the saga of a wild Mustang that just does not want to be tamed or ridden, except by a girl with a heart of gold. Problem with the girl that Flicka finds, she is much like the horse, but Flicka will change all that even if it means getting in trouble to do it.

Patrick Warburton plays Carries father Hank while Clint Black plays a ranch hand Toby in a small part of Flicka 2, Carries is played by Tammin Sursok. Carrie is a disrespectful and unruly youth who watches out for her grandmother after her mother passes away.

Her grandmother is old and wanders into traffic one day so the authorities send Carrie back to her father and the grandmother to a nursing home. Carrie hates her father for leaving them years ago but Carrie just does not understand the circumstances of their separation.

Carrie plays the part of bad girl teen well and soon falls in love with the equally untamed horse Flicka who is so wild that no one wants to ride her. The horse is a Mustang but when a neighbor with a daughter who competes in horse shows wants Flicka for her own he offers to take the horse in trade for damages to his property.

Flicka often gets out of the barn or corral and runs over neighboring fences and lets other ranchers cattle loose so the neighbor wants Carries father to pay for the damages. Hank owns Flicka but no one wants to ride her because she is independent and when Carrie takes a liking to her Hank allows her to ride Flicka.

The two are made for each other and by the end of the film they are inseparable except for the fact that Flicka is at heart a wild Mustang and Carrie has to decide to let her free. Flicka 2 follows closely with the previous film and has a tie in and references to it but is a good film on its own.

Flicka is a good but very predictable film that makes a good family film with lots of good scenery and some good modern pop music instead of the expected country or western. The film adds Jake, a young man played by Reilly Dolman ho plays guitar and is a side attraction for Carrie who also is the main music attraction to the film instead of Clint Black.

For anyone expecting to see a lot of Clint Black he plays a supporting role here and the stars of the show are of course the horse and girl. Flicka 2 is well worth a purchase with great audio and video that looks and sounds great, I received a review copy but the DVD release should be just as good.

Bonus content that should be on the DVD and Blu-ray release include a making of feature and a good feature about wild Mustangs and a couple of others. The content is not long but well worth a look at least once and adds a little to the film but not much.

Flicka 2 is your typical family friendly film that is all about relationships, consequences to your actions and right from wrong. In the end Flicka 2 is a good film and worthwhile as a purchase if you enjoy family films with a horse as the main star.
