Jobs that make civilized life possible for the rest of us is a common phrase used throughout the show and is exactly what Dirty Jobs is all about. Mike Rowe looks at jobs and the people doing them that make life possible in our society throughout the United States from sea to shining sea and even out to sea.
Mike Rowe travels the country to find jobs that people do and mostly are the grossest, dirtiest jobs you could ever imagine but also very interesting. Season 4 includes 21 in depth looks at particular jobs as well as a few looks back at previous jobs for a great season package.
Dirt Jobs Season 4 has Mike and crew in deep with people doing their daily work that helps our society in so many different jobs as well as important recycling. Some of the jobs are definitely dirty but also make a big contribution to society such as Spider Pharming for the venom of spiders used as anti venom.
Other jobs like Concrete finisher for counter tops or tubs make the task dirty and may not seem like much of a benefit for society at first. After you look into the benefits of concrete countertops instead of using non renewable stone or wood you see the recycling and Green efforts Mike and crew are finding out about.
Mike has a unique job himself but when he looks at other peoples work you can see he really does enjoy bringing the dirty jobs to the forefront of the public. Mike is really interested in these jobs and the people that work them and you can see that he really wants to learn and show the people and the part they play in our society.
The jobs are not all dirty, some are downright disgusting but others are more dangerous than dirty so you get a great variety in the episodes and jobs. Some jobs like window washer for high rise buildings is downright scary and even when bad things happen on air the show does a great job of covering the story.
Dirty Jobs is now a seasoned show but even from the start this reality cable television series looked great from the basic premise and how they went about getting things on film. The crew would hike, drive and otherwise get themselves into harm's way to get the action and even close-ups of dirt, grime and general filth are common in front of and often on the camera.
Mike Rowe is not afraid to get himself into the thick of it so his crew can watch as he shows us the dirt that comes with our society and the people who deal with it. Mike has a sense of the importance of these jobs and really shows the audience jusdt how important many of these are to us.
While being serious and always with great respect to the people behind these professions Mike looks at them and tries to see the humor that is inherently part of the job or dirt involved. I really like how Mike and the crew are always serious about filming the Dirty Jobs episodes and showing the work done.
The show is now in its fourth season and seems to have hit a slow spot as far as needing more Dirty Jobs to continue, Mike needs your help. In very episode there is a plea to help the show continue its important work of showing the jobs we take for granted and he is serious about wanting to show them.
The show never slows down though as it speeds dirt, grime and other almost unmentionable material at the cameras from episode to episode. The show really does a great job of showing in gritty detail the jobs like animal rendering that we may not want to see but is a big part of our society.
Recycling is a major theme in Dirty Jobs as it is in our society as people try hard to change their wasteful ways and Dirty Jobs does their part by showing us its importance in daily life. Mike Rowe has a great job and really loves what he does even if it is dirty, dirty but fun and important in its own way as well as educational.
Video and audio for this reality show is about what you would expect and as good as you could imagine for a reality show that has mostly hand held cameras and microphones. There is of course the dirt, grime and other unmentionables thrown into the camera, literally on the lens and filter, but everything looks great.
Video is clear and from high definition and expensive cameras as it is clearly stated by Mike in one episode talking about the disastrous damage a camera takes from a fall. Audio is also clear and sounds great, you can really hear just about everything you could want and several things you may not.
I only have two complaints but they are minor ones, I wish they would have a non censored version of Dirty Jobs available instead of the bleeped edition. A clear voice and really being able to hear the words Mike and others say would really be a treat.
The other complaint is the plastic tabs that hold the discs are terrible, many of the little tabs that hold the discs broke when I first tried to take out the discs. I am probably going to put the discs into different cases but this is not going to dissuade me from highly recommending this set at all.
Bonus content in the season 4 edition of Dirty Jobs is great with deleted scenes on every disc and a 200 episode look back episode that I would consider bonus content. The show is a reality series so bonus content is a mixed bag in this type of series and hard to define.
The discs have the deleted scenes and the 200 episode look back that is great but not exactly the most amount of what they call bonus material. The series has plenty of different episodes and does not really need any extra content to make it worthwhile so it is hard to define exactly what is bonus material.
I find it hard to rate this type of show and when they do include extras and define this as bonus content I guess I have to rate the extra features. I think the whole show is fantastic and very educational, I can't wait to get the first two seasons of Dirty Jobs so I can have the whole series.
Dirty Jobs Season 4 on DVD is more than worthwhile as a purchase, this is seventeen hours plus of pure entertainment which cannot get much better. Dirty Jobs is a fantastic series and a definite must have for an educational and entertaining series that is very much a well seasoned show.
