Nick Swardson, Seriously Who Farted?
Nick Swardson brings his unusual sense of humor to video with plenty of talk about his own past, especially his drinking but also his film Grandma’s Boy and more.

Nick Swardson: Seriously, Who Farted? is yet another Comedy Central Special this time starring Nick Swardson who not only does standup comedy but has co-written some movie scripts that unfortunately made it to the big screen. I have not seen Grandma’s Boy and from reviews I am not missing anything but Nick seems to take a lot of credit for the film even though it failed.
I found it kind of odd one of the jokes right after thanking people for supporting the film was about how badly the film did and how it was pulled from theatres. Joking at ones problems and shortcomings is funny if done correctly but Nick does it to himself too much.
He jokes about his alcohol consumption, over drinking and other problems associated with too much alcohol and not enough common sense. While this can be done with great effect, Robin Williams comes to mind, Nick makes it seem like he’s bragging about his consumption.
He does joke about other things but I could not get past how he jokes about his drinking like it’s a problem somebody else has. I understand comedians who use their own problems as jokes and do find it funny if done right but Nick makes it seem like he’s not even talking about himself.
Nick does have some good jokes and even a few that made me laugh out loud but mostly I just shrugged my shoulders at most of his jokes. This is one of those routines that you may like or not but it just does not come across as honest or heartfelt to me.
I truly enjoy comedy that comes from the heart and is honest and real but these short anecdotes from a professed drunk do not come across as honest or real. Nick Swardson does not strike me as a good comedian and this Comedy Central Special is one I could certainly leave alone.
One annoying part of the routine is a ten minute commentary about the making of Grandma’s Boy and how badly it flopped which is much more for fans of the movie. I found this part particularly difficult to sit through and would have been peeved had Nick not moved on to other subjects when he did.
Nick Swardson is a standard definition DVD so no surprise that the quality is good but nothing better and the audio is fine without being stellar. In a comedy routine video and audio are not as important as long as you can hear and see things but the bonus material is well worth at least one viewing.
Nick adds some pretty good material to his regular routine that is about as good as his full routine with more of the take it or leave it type of humor. Actually all his stuff is pretty much the same for me some of it is funny and more of it is not so this is definitely a rental before buying.
Nick Swardson: Seriously Who Farted is a pretty decent comedy routine and if you’re a Nick Swardson fan it will be a big hit. If like me you have never heard of him or Grandma’s Boy you would not be missing much if you passed on this one but at least give it a rental, you might be surprised.
