Heroes Season 3 Blu-ray
While Heroes had promise in Season 1 and skipping most of Season 2 due to the writers’ strike Season 3 does nothing to save the show or the world.

I remember looking forward to the first season of Heroes, Claire played by Hayden Panetierre with her healing powers, Hiro played Masi Oka and others who had superpowers. But not the superpowers of superheros we are used on television and film, no tights here and supermen flying in to save busloads of kids from a villain.
The villains one week are next weeks heroes and time is inconsequential to the plot in Season 3 of Heroes so watching this show has become one of extensive time jumps and character quick changes. I am really lost in this season and see from other reviewers that I am not the only one not liking this season and the direction the show has taken.
Heroes started as such a simple and promising show, both good and bad people, but people none the less have superpowers and have to deal with them. The world is not ready for these people with powers like stopping time, controlling fire or cutting the tops of people’s heads off.
The bad guys are a part of this company that is experimenting on people with superpowers and trying to I guess find out the secret to their powers. In one episode they go back and forth in time, four years ago, present, four years in the future so often that it made my head swim.
Toward the middle of disc two they go back to the start of it all and show the why and how of the good and bad guys and things that were behind the scenes in season 1. The problem here is that during season one they had the overall theme of stopping the nuclear explosion that devastated New York but now there is a bigger threat.
This is where things get fuzzy and logic along with a clear picture of what is going on is thrown out the window much like the characters back stories. I am truly at a loss as to why they keep moving through time, changing the plot and story to fit or fill in holes and even change characters good and evil leanings.
Season 3 has no clear cut direction they are taking the show and no specific goal for individual characters, I think this is a failing of the writers and why the show is not very enjoyable. When the plot is buried in character and even story line changes you have to actually pay careful attention to the show instead of sitting back and enjoying the fun.
Heroes Season 3 was more of a chore to watch than fun to review so it was with trepidation that I started this review as I did not see half of season 1 and season 2 was only have a season. I really do not like seeing later seasons of shows when I have not seen the previous ones but that is also the mark of a really good show in my opinion.
When you watch a later episode of a show and just have to watch the continuing seasons as well as the previous ones due to the enjoyment that makes for a good show. Heroes is both a good show and quite frustrating as this season is a bit more confusing than the first one which does not make for a good show.
The later episodes get less than confusing and makes for a better viewing and I even got to enjoy the show for the last few episodes as the characters did not necessarily change their main traits. I like occasional twists and turns but the first half of the show is very confusing when people are totally reversed in their good guy bad guy roles.
Heroes is very much a twist and turn plot thick show that gets confusing and just when you think they are done they throw more turns into the story. The show ends with superheroes working together to fight the one main villain, Sylar but they also work together to end the hunt for superheroes.
The Blu-ray edition contains plenty of high definition goodness with some pretty good video a bit better audio and a fully featured season full of bonus content. In a full seasoned show you get the full works with being able to see the various Blu-ray transfers, tricks they try with flashbacks and other sequences as well as plenty of close-ups.
Grain is fairly well missing and colors look good throughout but the film just misses that better look overall. At times color drops from good to average and flesh tones change according to whims of video transfer technicians or some such so the film does not do much above average overall.
The audio is done in DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 Surround Sound which does pretty good but surround and especially rear sounds are muted or missing from most of the episodes. The show is also quite bass heavy with a lot of loud sounding noises used in many of the scenes for some reason.
The audio is pretty good but with the lack of very good overall quality brings the rating down a bit from being above average. The Blu-ray edition of Heroes Season 3 has a lot of extras strung throughout the discs with audio commentary using picture in picture on all the discs for cast and Tim Kring to talk about the show.
They have bios of all the main characters in text based additions on all the discs, two stunts features and several other making of features to add to the full set of bonus content. The bonus features add to the show and give a fully feature set of extras but some are dull and boring while others are fun and interesting as you would expect.
The extras amount to a lot of bonus content that fills out the discs well but the show itself is not really that much above average so you may have to be more a fan of Heroes to sit through the season and the extras. Heroes Season 3 is a bit hard to understand and sit through but for diehard fans it does one thing, keeps you on your toes as you watch your favorite normal superheroes.
