Drawn Together: The Complete Series

Drawn Together: The Complete Series is a three season show about cartoon characters in a reality show spoof starring several made up characters in an animated uncensored parody of sorts. The show is another of those your either going to love it or hate it and I have no doubt that I hate it, I can’t even stand to watch the whole thing so this review may not be all that long on appreciation.

Drawn Together is a reality show spoof where a set of cartoon characters get stuffed into a house in a Big Brother type show where they video tape the lives of the characters. The characters are made up but represent the whole range we wish to see on these types of shows from one end of the spectrum to the other.

The show is dumb and has really no redeeming qualities for me with jokes that either fall flat or are just a little funny but nothing to laugh out loud about. The shows themes while based on real controversial and current topics take them in directions that sometimes make the topic seem trivial.

Other times they hit the nail on the head but using such stupid cliché ridden jokes or gags that the topic is lost in the moment. Sometimes things get side tracked and this is a problem with why I don’t like the show, it is just too hit and miss.

Drawn Together is uncensored so nudity, is cartoon nudity still nudity?, and swear words along with very controversial subjects including homosexuality, racism and religion are rampant. The show tries to make light of and fun at these topics and how people react to them one way or the other but does so in a stupid almost childish way.

I could go on and on about how I did not like it but I know there are others who enjoy it so I will not bother with more other than to say this is one show you could easily skip. The show comes with a board game, not sure why, so you can do something else besides just watch the show if you do enjoy it.

Besides not liking the themes and such I also found the filmmaking and style very bad with two examples that highlight what I mean. In two scenes the camera stops on a character to make a point or highlight what is going on but the camera pause goes on for a half minute or more which is way too long for dramatic impact.

The show includes these realistic types of film process that try to make it more of a real film and less of a cartoon like the interview sessions but it still is a stupid cartoon. Most of the realistic features just make the show more of a joke and not in a good way as the show tries way too hard to be funny.

They do some things that are not funny and make you wonder why they included it like a cat fight and the pig urinating on the two girls as they fight. It’s not funny and I could easily think of several funnier things for the characters to do or say other than the pig peeing on the girls for some reason.

The show is done in some decent animation but mostly its poor quality filming and not very consistent or good quality cartoons. The audio is better but not that great as the actors who did the voice acting are not given the best of scripts to begin with and at times just do not seem to be in the mood.

The voice acting is not all that great but it is better than the video quality so there is some better qualities to the show. Bonus features for the set include the board game which I think is just stupid and I have no idea why they included it but you also get four audio commentary tracks and some prerelease promotional content.

The bonus content is all but nonexistent unless you’re interested in the show and the commentary from producers and directors with an occasional add in by voice actors. This is the quintessential like it or hate it show so if you like South Park type humor this will certainly entertain, otherwise skip it quickly.
