Aziz Ansari gives his funny take on his cousins Facebook page and more in this Comedy Central Presents release of Aziz Ansari Intimate Moments for a Sensual Evening. Aziz Ansari is a standup comedian who you may recognize from his TV and films such as Scrubs and Funny People.
Aziz has a unique but not altogether different comedy style but he is quite lewd and swears a lot in his act so kids are not going to appreciate much of his work except for the shock value. Speaking of shock value the end of his show with RAAAAAAAANDY is just that, he is quite rude and lewd but this goes with his character that he created for Funny People.
Aziz does a good job at some of his comedy and other parts are more of a hit and miss with me but others may like his take on things like sushi at a local restaurant in the special features. The comedy is pretty much hit and miss for all the DVD for me but if you like The Office or the new Parks and Recreation this may appeal to you more.
I found some of his work pretty good like his hanging out with Kanye West and talking with M.I.A. but other things were merely funny or just okay. He does have a great take on the younger generation and much of his comedy seems to be geared toward the likings of The Office and that type of comedy.
I found much of the comedy was more for younger fans and not for a general audience so was not too thrilled with the entire DVD. The last few minutes where he acted out his RAAAAAAAANDY character was just dumb but that’s just my take.
The almost hour long show is alright but not much more than above average with another 30 minutes of special features in jokes that did not make the other part of the special. Not sure why it didn’t because some of the stuff in the specials was actually better than the regular feature but again just my take.
The video and audio is just fine without any problems and with clear video so you can see Aziz completely during the show. You also can easily hear him and there were no problems technically with the DVD using the Dolby Digital stereo audio.
As I said there is a bonus feature that lasts a half hour that is well worth watching being a small extra feature where Aziz does several jokes in front of a small audience. This actually looks like a backstage area where a bunch of friends or invited guests sit on chairs and the floor watching Aziz perform the jokes that didn’t make the final show.
Taking the full show and the half hour bonus feature you have a pretty decent comedy special that really is worth a rental more so than a purchase unless you have seen Aziz and like his style of comedy. If you haven’t seen him before do check him out as he is worth at least a look for an up and coming comedian.
