The ZeroWater Pitcher is a filtering system that uses a new filter type to remove a wide variety of contaminants from your water to provide you with cleaner drinking water. The filter that the ZeroWater uses is different than other filters as it has more parts than just an activated carbon to remove dissolve particles from the water.
The ZeroWater Pitcher takes clean water to the ultimate for just about everything including contaminants and particles but does not remove absolutely everything from water. The ZeroWater filter does remove most everything but not down to microbial sizes of contaminates like bacteria.
The ZeroWater filters are made of an activated carbon section like many other filters but also contains a carbon and oxidation reduction alloy and an ion exchange array. The usual fiber filters are in the ZeroWater filter to remove larger particles as well as keep things like the activated carbon particles from coming out of the filter.

WHile other filter systems have you soak and rinse the water filter the ZeroWater system just has you install and start using the filter without any preparation. Your first use is as simple as washing out the pitcher parts for cleanliness and screwing the filter in place then filling the top part.
The ZeroWater Pitcher comes with the Pitcher itself, a filter and the TDS meter to test your water and know when the filter needs to be changed. Unlike other water filter systems the ZeroWater includes a TDS or Total Dissolved Solids meter that measures exactly what the name says, total dissolved solids in your water.
The meter is easy to use, simply dip some the ends with the two contacts into a glass of water and press the on button, the meter measure solids in parts per million. A reading below 6 means your filter is keeping most dissolved particles out of your water but readings above this means you need to change out the filter.
I went around the house reading water from my tap, 344, my Pur filter, 144 and my Brita filter, 263, and have to conclude that the 002 reading from the TDS meter of the ZeroWater is what I want to use for my drinking water. While I have been impressed with the Brita and Pur filters for ease of use and the better taste of my water I also enjoy the knowledge that the ZeroWater takes most of the bad stuff out of my water.

The ZeroWater design is pretty good with the usual top and bottom parts with the filter screwed into the top part and dividing the two sections. The filter is a hefty one and screws inside the top part with a neoprene washer to seal the filter which is an improvement over the drop in filters.
The ZeroWater Pitcher I received has both a pour spout on the front as well as a water spout that allows you to leave the pitcher in the fridge and dispense water. The handle is large and easy to grip when pulling from the fridge and filling as well as having some rubber material on it for a good safe grip.
The larger design of the pitcher makes the water dispensing over time a better choice than smaller ones but it is also taller so you have to figure a taller shelf spacing inside your fridge. The design allows you to keep the pitcher in the fridge or remove it easily with the handle always facing out with the spout directly under the handle.
The ZeroWater also has a unique feature for the filters through the company, you can send the filters after use back to ZeroWater and they will send you a coupon for $5 off your next purchase. This way both ZeroWater and you get some benefit out of recycling the filters and the environment gets the ecological relief.

The ZeroWater pitcher costs about $35 and can be purchase from many retailers both on line and at stores with filters costing about $14 a piece. The ZeroWater does a great job of removing contaminants but does not remove micro sized bacteria or contaminants that may cause illness.
The ZeroWater should only be used with potable drinking water and not water just taken out of a lake or river, if you need a better filter system you need to use something specially designed for that. The ZeroWater pitcher does a great job of removing things that makes your water taste bad and earns my Blue Ribbon of Excellence.
I highly recommend the ZeroWater pitcher for your everyday drinking water in a great pitcher that can double as a dispenser for the fridge.
