Needle-Leaf Wedge

Needle-Leaf Gutter Filter Foam is an easy to install foam filter that filters out the debris and foliage that clogs gutters. The Needle-Leaf filters come in four foot sections and are available from the Needle-Leaf website for about $3.50 a foot or $14 for a four foot section.

Needle-Leaf Gutter Filter Foam is a wedge shaped foam that fits into your gutter to create a foam filter that blocks debris from entering your gutter yet allows water to pass right through. The wedge design creates a triangle of space toward the front of your gutter that allows water to flow freely through the gutter toward your downspouts.

Installing

Needle-Leaf Wedge is an open cell multi-polymer foam that is fire retardant, fungus and germ proof as well as ultraviolet protected. The filter foam comes in four foot sections and is easy to handle and install using a ladder and simple knife or box cutter.

Installation is easy with the flat corner of the foam going into the back and longer flat section toward the top to give your gutter a full appearance with the wedge shape inside toward the front. The tip of the wedge goes into the dent toward the front of the gutter that is common to K style gutters to fit snuggly.

The Needle-Leaf Wedge Gutter Filter Foam installs easily with a simple ladder and possibly a knife or box cutter depending on your installation. You will have to cut the foam for corners and if you install the foam filter pieces like I did using a notch cut for the hangers.

Needle-Leaf Wedge Section

I installed the four foot sections of the Needle-Leaf Wedge as per the installation instructions but found that sliding them under the hangers or cross pieces of my gutters was a bit of a hassle. Toward the end of my installation I cut the pieces of gutter foam so that the cross pieces or hangers were under the foam instead of the foam sliding under them.

This allowed me to install the pieces even faster as well as created a smoother fit without having to reach as far while installing them from the ladder. Installation took less than hour to install this companies filter foam and another companies across the front porch of my home.

Using simple forty five degree angles for corners and pushing the foam tight against itself and the ends you can install them so debris easily falls off your gutters. The foam creates a smooth surface across the top of your gutter so leaves, seeds and branches will not clog your gutters.

Smaller debris like the gravel from shingles will either start to clog in the foam or flow through it so some future maintenance may be needed. The filter foam looks to be a better solution that many screen type covers for gutters as it installs much quicker and easier.

I installed them on the lower front porch of my roof to allow better access during the review so I could take the pictures after a month or two of use. The foam filters of the Needle-Leaf Wedge handled the weather and storms of June and July in Minnesota well and I found no deterioration from sunlight or anything else.

Needle-Leaf WQedge Installed

After two months of summer storms the gutter filter foam is still performing its job of keeping things out of my gutters easily. Below the foam I found small gravel from my shingles but nothing else as I had washed out the gutters before installing them as per installation instructions.

Once installed you should have to only wash off any twigs and leaves from the top and occasionally remove them to wash them out so they don't clog up with debris that is rotting. I'm not sure how often I will have to remove the filter foam to wash them out but will update readers on the installation and recurring work in the future.

The gravel from shingles easily passed through the foam and did not clog it up but after awhile I am sure some things will eventually clog it up. A simple removal and washing out from the bottom to the top will remove most debris and any rotting material and get the foam sections ready for reinstallation.

Installation for a full house will not take long, an afternoon would probably be plenty of time and for two story homes simple ladder safety will be required. I have had no problems with installing the Needle-Leaf Filter Foam on my porch and look forward to using the foam filter solution on the rest of my home.

The Needle-Leaf Wedge in warranted for 25 years from clogs and should last that long due to the ultraviolet protection and germicide protection. The Needle-Leaf Wedge seems to be about the same as the GutterStuff Pro I am also reviewing but only time will tell which is better.

As I mentioned I will continue to update readers on this and the other foam filter product in the future on my website called Jeffs Reviews. I highly recommend Needle-Leaf Gutter Filter Foam for an excellent gutter solution to keep your gutters clear of debris.
