The MJSI HydroRight Dual Flush Converter adds a second partial flush to your toilet flushing use to help you save money by using less water. MJSI also has the Water Saving Fill Valve to help save money by saving water during your flush cycle by filling the bowl of your toilet at a different rate than the tank.
The Dual Flush is the obvious one but the fill valve adds the ability to change the rate water flows into the bowl and the tank of your toilet. This change in rate means you can fill the bowl and tank together at a different rate and not waste water down the drain by too much water in the bowl.
The HydroRight and HydroClean parts install easily and simply replace the old flush valve and the flapper of your old toilet parts. You may need a tool like a pair of pliers if your old parts are stuck but the new valves do not need any tools other than a pencil for marking water level in your toilet bowl.
When you flush your toilet the bowl and tank fill at the same rate with conventional valves, this means when you flush and the tank is filling with water it is also going down the drain through your bowl. If you could adjust the rate the bowl fills down to a lower amount you can have the bowl and tank filled and stop filling at the same time.
With just a few trial flushes you can adjust the bowl rate to coincide to the tank being filled and save yourself a few pennies every time you flush. You can save even more with the Dual Flush Converter that allows you a half flush or full flush with the simple push of a button instead of a lever flush.
A savings of about $4 is nothing to sneeze at when it comes to doing everything you can to save some money, I purchased another Dual Flush Converter for my own bath. That is how much I saved the first month I had the Dual Flush Converter installed in my main floor bath and the HydroClean Fill Valve Converter installed in my sons bath.
Another great benefit of the HydroClean Fill Valve is the bottom aerator that stirs up the tank when you flush, the tube extends around the bottom of your tank and moves around debris when flushing. This stirs up the bottom debris of your tank with air and water to keep your tank free of that dirt from the water and corrosion of the tanks bolts.
The HydroRight Dual Flush Valve kit comes with the Dual Flush Valve that installs pretty easily but does require some adjustment. You first have to remove the old flush valve and the flapper but not the fill tube so you do not need to remove the tank from the bowl.
You may need to remove and replace the flush valve tube and this requires removing the tank of your toilet for either the HydroClean or HydroRight installation. If you need to replace the part where the flapper goes it is a pretty simple procedure and you can find the instructions for this in the kits.
Once you have the flapper out you install the new HydroRight valve that replaces the flapper and you adjust it according to the directions. You also install the new flush button that replaces the lever and gives you a dual flush using the upper and lower half round buttons.
Replacing the fill valve is simple and about the only difference in parts is the addition of a tube that extends out from the valve along the bottom of your tank and around the corner toward the front. This tube with a bend allows water with air mixed in to be flushed along the bottom of the tank to stir up the water as the tank is being emptied into the bowl.
Adjusting both the flapper replacement valve and the fill valve is pretty easy, the Dual Flush Valve is mainly adjusted to get the proper amount of water for the half flush. The fill valve is adjusted to get both the tank and the bowl filled completely at the same time by marking inside the bowl and adjusting a small valve that puts water down the fill tube.
When you flush your toilet it starts filling water both into the bowl and into the tank, the flapper valve closes after most of the water is out of the tank. The bowl is filled by water being squirted down the fill tube that goes directly into the bowl and the tank is filled directly by the valve.
When you replace the flapper and fill valve with MJSI parts you simply change the amount of water being put into the bowl using a small valve at the top of the fill valve with the tube that goes to the fill tube. The dual flush with the flapper valve replacement is a physically separate part from the fill valve and is easy to operate after you use the toilet.
I used my last month and current month water bill to find out just how much water was saved, about $4 or so, my water usage between months has been about the same. I was finished with my gardening and have had no unusual water usage other than normal household things like cooking, toilet flushing and showers.
MJSI has hired an independent company, Veritec Consulting, to conduct a study using an apartment complex and seeing how much water was saved when they installed HydroRight and HydroClean parts in all the toilets. A 36 percent savings was found by keeping track of water usage before and after the installation and the project even detected the leaks that were also wasting water.
Flapper valves can often leak and sometimes not even the homeowner may not know they are leaking, the HydroClean Fill Valve will detect these leaks when small amounts of water are being lost over time. The fill valve simply makes a noise when the water level goes down by a slow or small amount because of this loss of water.
The HydroRight flapper valve may leak but it is doubtful, during installation you may not get it installed right so it may indicate this by detecting a leak. The HydroRight valve uses a silicone gasket to seal between the flush valve body and this gasket needs to be correctly seated during installation.
I had no problems installing the valves and both were easily put in and adjusted in about a half hour, full installation may take a couple of tweaks here and there to get the flow adjusted correctly for filling the bowl and tank. I have had no problems with the use of the dual flush toilet system and only a little personal adjustment from using a dual flush push button over a lever to flush.
The dual flush system works well but you may have to adjust and make sure the first half flush gets enough water through the tank to get rid of things in your toilet. The full flush will be a regular flush like before you installed the HydroRight but the half flush may need some adjustment.
Saving water is a small price to pay for a little fiddling that the valves and system may require and installation with that adjustment is very much worth it. The HydroRight and HydroClean can save you actual money, as much as 36%, but even just a few percent will help with your household bills.
I recommend the HydroRight and HydroClean from MJSI so much that I purchased and will be installing another HydroRight Dual Flush system in my other bathroom. You can find HydroRight and HydroClean kits at local home improvement stores like Home Depot, Ace Hardware and Menards as well as online sites.
I found the HydroClean valve at Menards and Wal-Mart for about $15 and the HydroRight Dual Flush system that also has the HydroClean valve for $25 at Home Depot. I could not recommend a dual flush system any more than using them in all my toilets and the MJSI kits are easy to install and use as well as readily found.
