Goldeneye 007 Wii

The classic Nintendo 64 game released in 1995 that follows the James Bond film Goldeneye has been remastered for the Nintendo Wii with great success. This release of Goldeneye has changed  from the classic original but with better graphics and tweaked gameplay it does make a better edition.

The 1995 release of Goldeneye still ranks high on the charts and is one of those classics, a better game would be hard to create and the Wii release has just about done what it could. No trying new things to improve what was already a great game they simply revamped the new game to fit modern first person shooters and the new character.

Bond is played by Daniel Craig instead of the original Pierce Brosnan and with this change in actors also comes a new style to the character and game. The game also takes into account more modern first person shooter styles such as a more destructible environment and multiplayer features like unlockables and experience progression.

The same basic story of the movie is here and you simply follow along in the shoes of Bond trying to stop weapons dealings and finally defeating Alec Trevelyan. The game plays loosely with the story a little but you can easily follow along with where things are going and what is happening for the most part.

The game looks fresh and new with solid graphics, textures and effects for a great looking game that also sounds very good with pretty realistic effects. The main feature that overshadows the games look is the feel using the controllers, they did a great job with the motion controller use and also added the classic analog controls as an option.
The more familiar hand held motion controllers work well and if your used to gaming with the Wii you should have no problem shooting through the game easily. You can also use the more conventional analog controllers if your more used to the controllers of the Xbox 360 or PS3.

If you are not used to the Wii motion controllers it does not take long to get the hang of an addition movement every once in awhile to move the screen around while also trying to aim. This is the hardest part and takes the most getting used to when you have not played the Wii games for awhile but it works well and Goldeneye has plenty of help with the controls.

You can adjust sensitivity and other features of the motion controllers and save them as a profile for use throughout the game for each gamer. This comes in handy when playing with others who also want a specific feel to their controls and makes the best use of the controls of the Wii.

Goldeneye 007 on the Wii has a great single player game that does follow the movie well enough and I really found the modern feel does stack up against other first person shooters pretty well. AI is good and does make use of cover like the myriad concrete walls and rock barriers as well as moving out from cover only long enough to take shots at you.

The game also uses special moves and takedowns but tones these down to only requiring them at certain times, you can perform them whenever you feel the need though. I like when a game allows the special moves and takedowns as they do come in handy but does not make you use them all over the place.

The single player is really good and long enough to make a good game but you also have more than a few levels of difficulty as well as parts of the game unlocked to be played on higher difficulties. The single player section has enough to make a good game on its own but you also get two multiplayer modes, split screen and online multiplayer.

The split screen is your usual two to four player on separate chunks of the same TV but the online is a modern first person shooter online play with unlocks and leveling up. The multiplayer is about as good as any I have played on the Wii system and all the unlocks and leveling up through experience works well.

You get the full feeling of a first person shooter just like the other consoles with Goldeneye 007 that works well on the motion controlled system. Both the multiplayer and single player modes work well and with the good motion controls the entire game is worthwhile and fun.

Activision and Eurocom has a real hit on their hands with Goldeneye 007 on the Wii and it really is a worthwhile purchase for first person shooter fans of the motion control system.
