How To Train Your Dragon PS3

How To Train Your Dragon on the console system is a pretty average game and not much more with great graphics but with a pretty repetitive gameplay that amounts to yet another game based on the animated film. How To Train Your Dragon for the PlayStation 3 turned out to be the same game based on a movie that is so common for this genre of games.

It's a sad fact when you can actually say there is a genre of video games based on animated films that are rushed to publication and released to match the feature film debut. The game, at least the console version is nothing more than a quick diversion for kids who adore the film and want just a little bit more.

The PS3 version of How To Train is a basic button mashing fight game right alongside the adventure hunting and gathering that they tossed in for some difficulty and game lengthening. How To Train Your Dragon from the start is not all that great but is more than playable, just not very enjoyable for an adult.

You play as either Astrid or Hiccup and you can alter the dragon you start with when you begin the game which just means changing their appearance. Once you start you begin the inevitable training tutorials to learn how the game is played and move on to the dreaded hunting and gathering portion.

Between the training spots to learn various combination moves you will need to search the Viking island for food and herbs for your dragon. While grabbing up herbs and vegetables is rather simple some things like minerals require pushing rocks over and animals like sheep and chickens may rush out of your reach.

Usually in the adventuring portion of the game, hunting and gathering, you will not have a problem with turning a running sheep or clucking chicken into lunch for your oversized lizard. Your gameplay also includes the fighting between dragons using the common button mashing antics of many a fighting game that is the bane of all console players who are over the age of ten.

While I do not mind some mindless fighting Dragon is the usual button mashing till your opponent goes down using various combinations that really are not all that necessary. All you really need to do is find the attack that works and repeat till your opponent goes down for good.

How To Train Your Dragon has another aspect to the adventure gaming with mini puzzles like using dragon breath to carve an ice sculpture or quests like finding tools to fix a bridge that add to the tedium. Basically you have a bunch of filler adventuring in the gathering of stuff your dragon needs to be healthy, a few silly and time wasting puzzles and the main dragon fighting.

The dragon fighting is the main part of the game but it is your common everyday ordinary button mashing that uses combinations that really don't work all that well. Mostly the fighting boils down to hit first and continue to hit after the other dragon recovers.

The fighting is much too repetitive like most of the other portions of the game and really does not use much strategy or tactics. Mostly this is your all too typical button mashing game with a good looking front from the How To Train Your Dragon feature film.

While How To Train Your Dragon is a good looking game it does get too repetitive with its puzzles and gathering that does not have much to do with the main theme of the game. The graphics look pretty good and you have some good clear audio so technically speaking the game is alright.

How To Train Your Dragon will entertain kids about age 10 or so who really like the movie but for older kids or adults you should look elsewhere for your entertainment. How To Train Your Dragon on the PlayStation 3 console is alright but nothing more than a quick distraction till the better games come along.
