Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions takes you on a four dimensional roller coaster using four iterations of Spider-Man to defeat the enemies because Mysterio tries to use a tablet to make himself more powerful.

Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions on the PlayStation 3 stars four different Spider-Man characters to defeat enemies as you try to find the pieces of the Tablet of Order and Chaos. Spider-Man has a quick struggle with Mysterio and in the process breaks the Tablet of Order and Chaos, sending pieces of the tablet to four dimensions.
As one of four different but similar Spider-Men you need to follow the path set before you to retrieve the pieces in each of four dimensions. You have a Noir Spider-Man from the near past, a modern day Amazing Spider-Man much like the movie version, Ultimate Spider-Man of the near future and Spider-Man 2099.
Each version of Spider-Man has similar but different abilities with the general web slinging and wall crawling that you would expect. Each edition has a set graphic style and comic book type but each plays similar to the others in control and story with the various enemies of Spider-mans universe.
You simply move from one set to the next and work toward getting to the end of the level to the ultimate boss fight that will reward you with the piece of the tablet. From one level to the next difficulties and enemies will get tougher as usual and as usual the game has the villains you're familiar with but with a twist.
Each dimension brings a different twist to the villains so if you think you're ready for the villain from previous games you need to wake up to the change that this game brings. Shattered Dimensions does a great job of shaking things up but not enough to make the game a real breath of fresh air to the genre, merely a different enough take on the same action game.
The games story works well even though it is weak, you simply chase each villain through levels to get the piece he is using to make him more powerful. The premise is very simple but you kind of get the same repetitive fighting that action games are notorious for as Shattered Dimensions devolves quickly into button mashing during fights.
There are challenges to accomplish which gives you new abilities or costumes that are pretty good to break up the monotony and the challenges do make you work for the rewards you are given. The challenges do help break up the games tedium but you do get a bit tired of the button mashing gameplay after awhile even though you have various combo moves at your disposal.
The games main theme of four separate and different styles and looks works well but the gameplay of simply moving along a level defeating the lesser enemies until the final boss battle is as old as console gaming. The looks and graphics to each dimension and the entire game in general is really good in a comic book style and you do get a very different overall look in each area.
Graphics works well and audio is good with some great narration by none other than Stan Lee as well as others who all do a good job of voicing the four Spider-men. One thing I do like with the voice acting is they did a great job of bringing some humor to the various characters with more than the usual in the modern day Amazing Spider-Man.
Shattered Dimensions does a great job of bringing a four style gameplay into one game and following the same, albeit weak, story. Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions for the PlayStation 3 worked well and is well worth a look if your following the superhero games and does have enough content to be a repeat visit game worthy of owning.
