StarTech Video Game Jockey

You do have to realize that the monitor you are using is a smaller screen and probably 1024x768 or 1280x1024 so your picture will be a lower resolution. This has a big effect when viewing a computer but not so much when viewing video like television that is already a low resolution.

Watching and playing a video game from the Wii and Xbox 360 was great and I had no problem connecting and viewing the gaming with some really nice clear picture. The colors are great for all the viewing and the only problems I had was when using a larger monitor like my Acer 19 inch widescreen. Using a regular CRT monitor that only inputs VGA was fantastic with really good clear picture and color.

The Video Game Jockey did work with my Acer widescreen monitors but the picture was not as clear, kind of out of focus due to the resolution being stretched from 1280x1024 up to higher sizes. The resolution the adapter puts out is a maximum of 1280x1024 so you should limit the size of your computer resolution to this if you are going to use the Video Game Jockey with a computer.

To use the Video Game Jockey for both a computer and another device like a console or to watch movies or TV you simply connect the PC to the VGA in and the other device like the Xbox to the S-Video or Audio Video inputs. The monitor goes to the Monitor connection and you have a button on the front for the two modes; computer or gaming system. The other buttons on top are for brightness, status reset and S-Video or Audio Video connections.

The brightness does exactly what you would think while status adjusts the screen positioning from the Video Game Jockey in case you monitor does not have this adjustment. The reset is a nice feature and the Video Game Jockey has a power saving function so if there is no input it will go to a standby mode so you may need to reset the device.

Using the Video Game Jockey with the Xbox 360 and the Wii system was simple and I did not have any problems with either console system for any game I played. The connections are straight from the cables that come with the basic systems using the audio video cable and color as well as focus or clarity was great.

The gaming was just fine without any problems with streaking or loss of frame rates with the systems being in sync and not having any video lag what so ever. I really enjoyed connecting and playing around with the variety of ways to use this system like being able to watch movies from my Sansa View and the cable I received for video and audio out.

You can play from any device that connects from a S-Video or the more common RCA video audio connections like DVD’s and even camcorders. This is truly a cost effective way to have a second TV in your home using an old VGA monitor and a new DTV converter for a simple and easy DTV setup like mine for my basement.

The Video Game Jockey from StarTech is a great little device and costs vary depending on where you purchase it but it is available from many online retailers such as Newegg and Radio Shack. I highly recommend the StarTech Video Game Jockey for a great adapter to connect your monitor and any S-Video or RCA Audio Video connection device.
