The Nyko Wing is your classic gaming controller taken to the modern cord free design using a radio frequency transmitter/receiver that connects the controller to the wireless dongle that attaches to your Wii remote. The Nyko Cord Free is another ingeniously designed device that cradles the Nunchuk as well as hangs onto the extra cord from the Nunchuk and connects to the Wii remote wirelessly.
Both devices are from Nyko and make for some great gaming on the Nintendo Wii without any connecting cords for truly wire free gaming. Both devices use radio frequency transmitters and receivers and an included dongle that connects to your Wii remote like the cord of the Nunchuk does. Simply plug in the dongle and both will work great for your gaming needs whether you’re into those classics on the Wii or the newest in gaming like Call of Duty: World at War.
I tried both the Wing and the Cord Free for many games and find both work great and are very comfortable to use, I’ll start with the Wing for those classics. The Wing is a battery operated cordless controller for those classic games on the Wii, older games that are downloaded cannot use the Wii remote or Nunchuk so you have to rely on the old standby the Classic controller.
The Wing allows you to remotely control your gaming fun using a dongle to connect the Wing controller to the Wii remote, simply plug in the small dongle to the bottom of your Wii remote and press the button. The Wing should detect the console and vice versa and both should work perfectly for those classics like Donkey Kong and Mario.

I had no problems playing any games and for platformers the use of the D pad and correct movement as well as comfortable controllers is a must. The Wing is a controller designed much like the Xbox design and is quite comfortable for hours of gaming without any problems.
You can even use a cord if you find yourself out of batteries and no time to stop the gaming to go find more, simply plug in a USB to Mini-USB cable and you’re good to go for more gaming fun. I find that at times it is handy to plug in devices like controllers because I just do not want to stop playing till I hunt down more batteries or have to charge them.
The Wing has the usual D pad, two analog joysticks, four action buttons and triggers with smaller Z trigger buttons up front for all your control needs. The buttons and analog sticks work well and the D pad works just like it is supposed to but the biggest thing is you can hold onto the Wing well. The two analog sticks are spaced nicely, not like the Classic controller that Nintendo sells.
The Wii Classic controller had no way to really grip the controller that was comfortable and you would get tired and sore fingers gripping the thing. The Wing is well made and well designed for comfortable gaming when returning to those classics, but how about those more modern games like World at War.
The Cord Free is a great little device that is a cradle and place to store the Nunchuk cable as well as a radio frequency transmitter receiver for wirelessly connecting your Nunchuk with your Wii remote. This means no cords from one to the other and no problems with cords getting in your way while gaming which is a bigger pain and hassle than you would think.

Gaming is an entertainment as well as a way to relax and unwind; anything that lessens that enjoyment is a downright pain in my book. Things like small devices to get rid of cords that make you’re gaming more hassle free make gaming more fun as long as it works well.
I had no problems gaming with the Cord Free at all and enjoy the hassle free cord management design, the cord for the Nunchuk wraps around the base that also creates a nice flat spot to set the Nunchuk down with. I usually just laid the Nunchuk on top of a shelf or the top of my DVD player and now it can sit, without the cord dangling around, upright ready for my next use.
The Nunchuk fits into the molded plastic handgrip and the cord wraps around the base with a rubber guard to hold the cord in place. The base is your transmitter/receiver that communicates with the dongle that attaches to your Wii remote and thankfully is different enough from the Wing to see which one is which. The two dongles are similar but the Wing has Wing in big letters and is slightly bigger so they are easy to tell apart if you own both.
I used the Cord Free with my Nunchuk while playing the game Call of Duty: World at War for a review and found it worked very well, I also used it in other games and enjoyed the cord free design. The Nunchuk is great but the cord is always a problem for me, it usually gets in the way when I am gaming as I like to sit for most games and it usually is hitting the coffee table.
It’s just annoying and not really a big deal but like I said earlier, anything that makes my gaming more fun and less of a hassle is great and well worth a few bucks. Both the Wing and Cord Free are pretty inexpensive as these devices go these days at $30 for the Nyko Wing and $20 for the Cord Free.
The Cord Free as well as the Wing work very well and are great accessories for the Nintendo Wii that are very well priced, check out the Wing and Cord Free at Nyko or your favorite console gaming store.
