Far Cry 2

A major difference between the PC version and the PS3 version is the save system; on the PC you can save at any time during gameplay while the PS3 has set save points only. This makes the PC version a bit easier to play but also means you have no sense of urgency to the game that makes for a more cautious attempt at your objectives.
I found both versions equally as enjoyable but the PlayStation 3 version is a bit tougher to play in my opinion just due to the controls. If you can play other PS3 games with the controller this should be a great game for you as well but I find that using the SplitFish controller is much easier for me personally.
Far Cry 2 has some great single player gaming with your very open ended style so you can actually proceed at your own pace but you can also jump right in and tackle the main objective of assassinating the Jackal. I found it quite easy to roam the landscape and collect diamonds while unlocking weapons and really gear up before proceeding on to missions following the story line.
The story of the two factions warring and you being the pawn in the middle that both sides use to their advantage works well for this game and muddles the lines of the good guys and bad guys. Here the only side your on is your own and this makes for a great way to run a first person shooter, after all, that is the main focus of most games anyway.
From beginning to end you’re mainly in Africa to conduct your business of finding the Jackal by doing odd jobs here and there for whoever will hire you at the moment. During your work you will occasionally have to return to one spot to get malaria pills so you do not die from the disease.
During the beginning of the story it is told that you enter the country and immediately contract malaria so during the game you occasionally get ill and need to take a pill. This getting ill from malaria happens often enough during gameplay so you have to occasionally stop to down your medicine.
The visuals and graphics are great and mean a few load times for each large area you’re in but not too often and not nearly as bad as many other games I have played. The graphics are great and pretty much some of the best I have seen for such a large scale game and open sandbox environment.
You have some really great looking textures and realistic looking environments with real day and night as well as weather effects. Nothing like a good nap till night to make that mission a bit easier for you, they added a sleep mode were you set your watch to a time and go to sleep when you’re at your safe houses.

This and several other features make the game fun and varied even though the missions can get a little repetitive as well as downright easy for the side ones after awhile. Once you have a good arsenal some of the side missions end up being more of an exercise at war than a real combat situation but you do have the main mission and surprises are usually just a short ways down the road here.
Animals are pretty much everywhere scattered liberally around the landscape and act pretty much like animals that you see on those nature programs. They run away when you do things like drive near them but they also stop and wander around after they get far enough from you.

The people also act pretty much like people as well which does add a lot to the gameplay, the AI is really good with plenty of normal behavior that is quite surprising. When you do raid those camps or crossroads make sure you get rid of everybody, they will try to hunt you down if you don’t.
You can have enemies try and flank you as well as cover each other and try to flush you out so keeping on your toes is more of a requirement than a cautionary warning. You can heal yourself using one of the five syringes you carry as well as a heal feature where you use your knife or pliers to dig bullets or other foreign matter from your body.
The audio is equally as impressive alongside the graphics with plenty of good voice acting as well as the general sound effects and noises of the game. Far Cry 2 may not have the most original storyline but they did a great job in so many areas that it does make for as good if not better game than the original.
