mophie juice pack powerstation external battery

The mophie juice pack powerstation is a handheld and pocket sized battery pack that uses smart battery sensing to deliver the necessary amperage for your handheld devices. The powerstation uses an internal battery pack to charge your handheld devices like smartphones using the USB connection and charges on another USB connection.

The mophie juice pack powerstation comes with a micro-USB to USB cable, a user’s manual and the battery pack itself that charges through the micro-USB connection and cable. The juice pack powerstation has the micro-USB connection for charging and the regular USB A connection for delivering power to your device needing a charge.

The powerstation can deliver 5 volts at 500 milliamps, 1 amp and 2.1 amps depending on what the device wants according to the internal circuitry of the powerstation. The device is rated at 4000 milliamp hours which means the battery at full charge can deliver the 500 milliamps for approximately 8 hours.

Whats in the Box

The other two rates will deliver 1 amp of power for four hours or 2.1 amps for 1.9 hours at the five volts the battery outputs for charging. The battery has a four green LED status indicator to show charge level and if the battery is charging all four LED’s will be lit while plugged into a USB power source.

The mophie juice pack powerstation is about the same size as a smartphone at 4 by 2.25 inches and .25 inches tall and weighs about five ounces. The powerstation is small enough to be carried in a pocket along with your phone and can add a few hours up to several depending on the device you are charging.

I tried out the powerstation with several items like my Tracphone, a Nintendo 3DS a Nextbook Next5 tablets and my SanDisk View MP3 player. All the devices charged easily with the powerstation and gave hours more play except for the Nextbook Next5 tablet which used the battery to help run the tablet.

Power Indicator

The mophie powerstation will either charge or be used as a battery for devices but I am not sure exactly why it does not charge my tablet. The battery pack will charge most devices like cell phones but some devices like my Nextbook Next5 tablet will not charge on the device but simply uses the powerstation as a battery.

I charged up devices like my SanDisk View and Nintendo 3DS which does show the charging status on the device like the charge indicator bar on my View MP3 player. On my Nextbook Next5 the tablet does not show it is charging but when looking at the battery status it will increase several percent when connected to the powerstation.

This adding to the charge state instead of charging the device is probably due to the device itself and not the powerstation as it only does this with the one device I have. The Next5 tablet was the only device I tried that did not charge but it did extend the battery life of the tablet by about 10 percent when the powerstation was fully charged.

Back of powerstation

The mophie juice pack powerstation worked well for all the devices I tried it on and added at least an hour or two to the devices I have from a full charge. In the case of my Nintendo 3DS and MP3 player it charged the devices more than once from a full charge so the powerstation works well even for handheld devices.

The only concern I have would be from a price standpoint, the powerstation costs about $60 which is about ten to thirty dollars more than competing brands in the same category and capacity. The mophie battery pack is smaller than most other 4000MaH battery packs and its stylish good looks may entice some to go with this pack that works well even if it does not include an AC charging adapter.

The mophie juice pack powerstation does work well and has the added advantage of a smaller size for extra battery capacity to charge smartphones and other handheld devices. I highly recommend checking out the mophie juice pack powerstation when looking for a battery pack to keep your handheld devices charged on the go.
