Razer Naga Hex Gaming Mouse

Razer has such a wide variety of mice for gaming that you can pretty much pick a game type or genre and the company has a mouse with specific features for that type. Their newest gaming mouse I got my hands on is the Razer Naga Hex with six side buttons that make battle arena games and role playing games easier.

The Razer Naga Hex has six side buttons in a hexagon shape, hence the name, with the two finger buttons and two top buttons that are great for sensitivity adjustments or other not often used functions. The Razer Naga Hex includes the scroll wheel that also has the middle mouse button and a bottom button that switches the side buttons from regular numbers to the number pad numbers.

The Razer Naga Hex is medium sized mouse and fits in my hand well for comfortable use while gaming and general computer use, the mouse has a nice contoured rest for your ring finger. The sides of the mouse and the finger rest has a slightly rough black plastic for good grip while the top is gloss with metallic green for good looks.

Whats in the Box

The Razer Naga Hex comes with the mouse itself and a quick start guide along with a more complete master guide and two rubber buttons that go in the middle of the hex of number buttons. The center of the number buttons has a hole to accept the rubber button of your choice from three varying sizes of buttons for the best rest and home position of your thumb.

The three buttons that come with the Hex are either indented slightly, flush with the six buttons or standing out a little so you have a slight hole, an even plane or a bump for your thumb. This gives you the best resting position for your thumb for whatever you prefer among the three rubber buttons and you can switch them out quickly.

The mouse has Teflon feet for a smooth glide across all gaming mouse surfaces and even a rough desk works well for the mouse surface but of course a mouse pad or matt is best. The Naga has the drivers and Synapse program available for download from the Razer website so you do need an internet connection at least for installation.

Side of Naga Hex

The Synapse program allows you to configure any of the mouse buttons, change the speed and sensitivity as well as control the lighting of your Razer mouse. The Synapse is a great feature of the Razer products and works better than the general drivers that Microsoft operating systems install when you first plug in the mouse.

Even if you do nothing else the sensitivity feature to assign the mouse the speed you like to use is the best single function of the program but others are nice to use as well. You can adjust the amount the cursor moves across the screen compared to the amount you move the actual mouse which is called sensitivity.

The other adjustment you can change is the acceleration the cursor uses when moving, the mouse can use no acceleration or move faster the more it moves across the screen. This acceleration may not be useful for some games but for ones like first person shooters it helps in turning around to get the drop on someone who is getting the drop on you.

Razer Synapse

The Synapse program has settings so you can save your profiles and mouse settings online so you never have to worry about losing your profiles. A profile can save settings for each game or function so you can use a different setting and even button setup according to the game you are playing.

You can have 20 profiles for the Razer Synapse which saves them on your computer as well as on a Razer server for use anywhere you want to go using your email address. The profiles can also be linked to a program so that any program that is linked and opened will automatically switch to that profile.

The Razer Naga Hex continues the Razer professional gaming mouse manufacturing and the design is another top notch gamer specific one that works very well. The Razer Naga Hex is a comfortable mouse and works great for all gaming and regular computer use I tried it out with even the first person shooter games I enjoy.

Side Button Settings

The number buttons simply make using various weapons faster for first person shooters because the number buttons are the usual buttons for switching to various weapons. On my current favorite, Battlefield 3, the numbers allow me to quickly switch form my main weapon to others without having to look down at my keyboard.

Too often I look away from the action to switch weapons or perform some other function but the Razer Naga Hex allows me to at least change weapons when one is empty and it’s faster to switch instead of reload. The Razer Hex worked well for all the gaming I tried and I can highly recommend the Razer Naga Hex for a fantastic gaming mouse for any genre you enjoy.
