SIIG Wireless Multimedia Keyboard & Mouse

If you're looking for an inexpensive wireless keyboard and mouse solution the SIIG Multimedia Keyboard & Mouse is the answer for wirelessly controlling your computer. Whether your gaming, general web browsing or just want a good home theatre solution for your living room the SIIG Wireless Keyboard & Mouse Set has the features you need.

I will now stop sounding like a commercial and give you the whole feature list and such for the SIIG keyboard part number JK-WR0212-S1. The SIIG keyboard and mouse comes with the keyboard, mouse, a wireless dongle, four AAA batteries and an instruction sheet.

Using the wireless mouse and keyboard is as simple as connecting the USB dongle to your PC or notebook and inserting the batteries into the keyboard and mouse. The dongle is a 2.4 GHz wireless connector and will wirelessly connect without having to pair like a Bluetooth device.

The dongle has a good range at about 33 feet which is plenty for most computer situations and even those living room HTPC, Home Theatre Personal Computer, setups. I used the keyboard and mouse in both my office and my living room for general computer use, gaming, browsing the web and entertainment.

Whats in the Box

I recently setup a computer in my living room to watch Hulu and Blu-ray movies and have enjoyed being able to watch the internet based shows. The Multimedia Keyboard has a standard keyboard setup with a number pad to the side in a standard sizing and position which is handy.

I just hate those keyboards that have to move things around to be different and it takes having to just about relearn the keyboard to get used to it but not with the SIIG keyboard. The function keys are also nicely spaced above the standard keyboard and above this is a full set of multimedia buttons for music, movie and other media functions.

You also have a full set of quick function keys or you can use a program like KeyTweak to assign things to what you want if you do want to change things around to suit you. The left hand multifunction keys are Web Page Back and Forward, Stop, Refresh, Search and Favorites while the usual play, pause and volume are available in the middle and on the right hand side.

A few extras that are included in the middle set and right side are a My Computer button, Calculator, Mail and default browser home page button.  The keyboard really does have about all the multifunction buttons you could want in a normal sized keyboard that works great for general computer use as well as entertainment.

The keys have a nice bouncy feel but without being too springy so you do not have any problems typing even if you type fast like I sometimes do. The keyboard has a built in standby mode that kicks in with no keyboard activity after 3 seconds which saves on battery power for the two AAA batteries.

The keyboard also features a water resistant keypad under the keys to resist short circuiting from liquid spills as well as two flip up feet if you want more height at the top of the keyboard. The SIIG keyboard and mouse are both great for general computer use and work pretty well for gaming but of course not as well as much more expensive mice.

The SIIG mouse has some nice but basic features in an inexpensive mouse just like the keyboard with 5 buttons, regular scroll wheel and optical sensor. The scroll wheel has the usual middle button and the two side buttons are on the left hand side so the mouse is geared more for a right handed user.

SIIG Mouse and Dongle

The shape of the mouse is the same on both sides so left handers can use it but the side buttons are on the left side for ease of use with a thumb. The two areas where your fingers control the left and right top buttons are covered with a rubberized or neoprene coating to aid in grip.

The mouse has a bottom battery compartment and a connect button if you have trouble connecting to the dongle and computer but I have never had to use it. The mouse and keyboard are plug and play ready so no drivers are used other than the ones Windows uses for generic mouse and keyboards.

The mouse and the keyboard are both simple yet useful controls for a regular PC or a notebook and make a great inexpensive solution for controls. I highly recommend the SIIG Wireless Mouse & Keyboard Set if you're looking for a great wireless set for your computing needs that costs only about $30.
