Logitech takes a different tactic with their latest releases of two and three piece speakers and the Z520 puts them smack in the smaller room setup for a desktop or even a small television setup. The Logitech Z520 speaker system is a two piece speaker system with the two speakers having a tweeter facing the rear of each speaker for a surround sound feature.
The Z520 is a larger sized desktop speaker with each speaker almost identical to each other at ten inches tall, 5 inches wide and about 6 inches deep at the base. The right speaker has the left speaker connection, a power cord and the input for the stereo sound as well as the volume on/off switch.
The right speaker also has a side panel for alternate input and headphones that are conveniently located toward the front on the right side of the right speaker. The left speaker only has the cable connecting it to the right speaker and both speakers have the smaller one inch tweeter facing in both front and rear directions.
The main drivers on the Z520 is a 3 inch driver while the four tweeters are about an inch wide with the two facing forward and the other two in the setup facing toward the rear. This gives you a surround sound when the tweeters are bouncing sound from the wall or whatever else is behind the speakers.

While this kind of setup will not work well for larger rooms it does make a great sounding setup for smaller rooms like dorm rooms, offices and bedrooms. This gave me the idea of setting up the Logitech Z520's in my bedroom for a better speaker solution that the integrated speakers of the television I have there.
The Logitech Z520 makes a great smaller room speaker set and easily connects to my DTV box using a simple adapter and sounds great, much better than my TV's speakers. The television I have in my bedroom is an older model with only a simple internal speaker and the Logitech Z520 really brings great stereo sound to this setup.
While the Z520 is only stereo the tweeters facing both forward and back give at least some surround sound along with helping to fill the room with your music, television sound or gaming. I have also used the Z520's as my primary speakers in my living room setup as well as my desktop computer for gaming and general computer use.
The Logitech Z520 sounds very good as long as you are in a medium to smaller sized room, I found the speakers did great in my office and also in my 13 by 14 foot living room. For a simple two piece speaker system with the three speakers on each piece the system sounds very good.

I have used other, much more expensive systems both two piece and up to 5.1 surround sound systems and found this system rates up there pretty well for the cost. Compared to other two piece systems this is one of the best for about $100 and even better than a couple of 2.1 systems I have reviewed in the past.
The bass is not as pronounced as a separate woofer would be but you can still tell in movies and games that have heavy bass it is there and highs are pretty good. The smaller tweeters mean a separate speaker for those highs that sound really good but at higher volumes the bass starts to distort.
The Logitech Z520 speaker system sounds really good and would make a great two piece system for desktop or entertainment uses especially with the upward angled speakers. The angle of the fronts of the speakers make listening to sound and getting those highs toward your ears much better than right angled speaker drivers.
Logitech got this much right and really did a great job designing these speakers for the use they were intended, desktop speakers for home or office. The Z520 makes an even better speaker system for a television in a bedroom for sound better than integrated speakers on a TV.

The Logitech speaker system also has the alternate input on the side of the right speaker that when plugged in cuts out the stereo connection. This means you simply plug your alternate input like an MP3 player in the side input and the speakers main input through its integrated stereo cable will not be used.
The headphone output has the same feature so you can plug your headphones in and listen to your computer or television without bothering anyone else. The output for headphones works just as well as connecting directly to the output from my computer without any distortion or problems.
The Logitech Z520 works very well and makes a great two piece speaker system for about $100, I found the system at B&H Photo & Audio for the price of $98.99. You can also find the Z520's at other stores on the internet but this was the lowest price and shipping is free for them at B&H.
The Logitech Z520 Speaker System makes a great two piece speaker set and sounds really very good for the price, if you're looking for a two piece speaker system the Logitech Z520 is well worth a look.
