Trulink Wireless USB Superbooster Extender Kit

The Cables To Go Trulink Wireless USB Superbooster is a good wireless USB device that uses a 802.11 b/g WLAN USB dongle to connect a USB device to your computer. The Trulink Extender kit allows you to connect a USB device such as a printer, webcam or scanner to your computer without wires.

The Trulink kit comes with the Wireless LAN dongle, the extender adapter, power adapter for the extender, quick start guide and  driver CD. The Trulink Extender is a Windows XP and Windows Vista product and does not work at all with Windows 7 computers but does work just fine with Windows XP and Vista.

The program that connects and monitors the Extender is called USB Link and is very simple to use, mostly it is automatic but you can change a few settings. You can change the SSID or network name and IP address settings to make the device work but these should be set during the installation automatically.

Whats in the Box

I have been trying very hard to get this working with my Windows 7 work computer and just could not but I did get it working just fine with a Windows XP and a Windows Vista system. Installation is very easy with a simple driver and utility installation that adds the utility and drivers for the kit.

Once you have the kit installed all you have to do is connect your USB device to the adapter and your computer should start the found hardware routine. I had no problem using this with a HP All-In-One printer, a Canon scanner and a simple webcam so that you can remotely use the devices.

I originally wanted to get this system to use as a security system with the webcam and it worked out very well, simply plug in a webcam and you can have your camera pointing out a window or as I did on my porch at the door. I simply had the camera watching for deliveries and had a window open on my laptop as a full time security system.

USB Link Software

One big use for the Trulink Extender is a device adapter for connecting printers or All-In-One devices so that you do not need to have them right at your computer. You can simply have the extender wirelessly connect a printer or scanner to your computer and not have it in the way.

The Trulink Extender worked just fine for use with my All-In-One printer from Hewlett Packard with both printing and scanning but I did not use the printer much. I was hoping to get this whole system working and use it full time as either a printer connection or a webcam but again it would not connect using my work computer.

I did have it working just fine with a Windows Vista system as well and it worked just fine, installation was quick and simple and my desktop system found the printer without problems. The Trulink Extender Kit really does not have any problems with setup as it simply connects to the adapter and works as a full time USB connection.

Extender Indicators

The Trulink Extender is a bit expensive but if you need a good way to connect USB devices without having the wiring the Trulink Extender Kit is well worth a look.
