Vignetting is the darkness that crops into the corners of a picture from wide open apertures and can be a problem with the f stops very low. Simply closing the aperture will reduce or get rid of vignetting totally as well as being able to go up in focal length but I had no problem with darkness in photos around corners in close up shots.

The vignetting can be a problem when trying to take close up shots where you have the corners darken and you may not want it to. Having even lighting throughout a picture at lower aperture or wide open means you will have even and better lighting and more even color throughout your image. The Tamron lens did not have all that much vignetting or darkness in the corners at those very low apertures.

Good All Around Lens

If you compare cropped portions of shots like the center top corner and bottom corner of images you will find the image quality is good overall but with apparent lessening of quality at lower f stops in the corners. Sharpness is better in the center of the image at long focal lengths but not bad at all in the rest of the image either.

I took shots of a meter box on a white wall and checked various areas of the lens with the meter box in the different corners and center to see how well the lens did with resolution and quality. The quality of course was better in the center of the lens but I also had very little lower quality in the other areas of the lens.

After doing some comparisons around my home and around town I took the Tamron lens on a little outing to a local Wildlife Refuge for some outdoor photography and did get some pretty good shots. As you can see by the included shots the lens does equally well at close up and scenic panoramic shots as well as those odd lighting situations.

Nice with brighter Lighting

I have a lot more pictures that turned out well but nothing in the way of award winning professional shots, I am not really a professional photographer. I am an amateur but I have been learning a lot about digital photography and have done a lot of comparison shooting with this lens as well as read a lot of other reviews.

I am quite pleased with the Tamron lens and it did perform very well in my tests as well as in the field, I used the Tamron 18-250mm lens on a Canon EOS Rebel XSi and a Canon EOS Rebel XT body. The shots I have included are untouched other than cropped to fit the pages and were taken without automatic settings, I set aperture and most other settings myself. I find this does a better job of getting the shots I want as well as learning how to use the lens and camera but also it helps in becoming better at taking pictures.

Decent Telephoto

I think the Tamron A18 18-250mm lens is a great buy and one that makes a lot of sense for the amateur who needs a good overall lens at a decent price. The lens is about $499 from those reputable camera dealers and stores but is well worth it for the price in a one size fits all lens.

I have also checked out just about every review on the internet and gotten the impression that this lens is highly regarded by both amateurs and professionals. Many reviews talk about the versatility and overall good quality and I do have to agree with the build and quality of the lens.

The Tamron AF18-250mm F/3.5-6.3 Di-II LD Aspherical (IF) Macro DSLR Lens comes with the lens itself and the lens cover on both sides as well as the lens hood. The flower shaped lens hood fits on the lens either forward facing or on backwards in a stored position and the lens cover for the front goes on with tabs toward the center to use with the hood.

I highly recommend the Tamron AF18-250mm F/3.5-6.3 Di-II LD Aspherical (IF) Macro DSLR Lens as a versatile and overall lens for both amateur and semi-professional photography. The lens makes a nice and affordable single lens solution for those outdoor events as well as a handy all around lens.
