This of course does not include the height of the head you are using for your tripod that would add a few inches depending on the model. Speaking of heads the Basic Pan Tilt Head that I also received with the tripod is also a great photography head that has a quick release latch and the easy removable camera plate.
The Basic Pan Tilt Head w/QCK Lock model 804RC2 has a quick lock latch that flips back for easily positioning the clamp device that holds the plate. The plate is a nice size metal plate for attaching to your camera body with a hard rubber protector. The plate has the usual 1/4 inch standard thread post with a nice sized ring for turning the threaded post onto and off your camera.
The plate attaches easily to the head with the lever latched in the open position but the plate can only go on in one direction which is common for quick release plates. To remove the camera from the head you just move the lever back and push down on the safety lever.
I found this to be a sometimes awkward maneuver using one hand to hold the safety lever back and move the lever while trying to hold onto the camera at the same time. The safety lever is the one that holds the lever out of the way as well as automatically releases the lever when the plate is pushed onto the bump on the safety lever.
The Basic Pan Tilt Head has three screw thread handles for releasing the three axes for tilt and rotation with a nice marking on the posts that the three axes turn on for degrees of rotation and tilt. The head is a matt black finish made from a polymer that weighs 1.65 pounds or 26 ounces, this would make the tripod and head weigh in at 7 pounds.
The Basic Pan Tilt Head has nice smooth action in itself and on the tripod for a really good complete set for a professional photographer. The head has a nice bubble level for easily positioning the tripod and head at a consistent even level for better picture taking.
The tilt forward and back has a slight spring to it so the camera does not slam forward when you let go of the tension on the handle. The rotation works for 180 degrees and the side tilt goes from -30 degrees to the right to 90 degrees left for a vertical camera view.
The Basic Pan Head Tilt w/ QCK Lock is a really great companion to the Basic Tripod and makes for a great and professional photography set. The Basic Pan Head Tilt works great and allows smooth action and precise control to your camera positioning for a great head for your tripod.
