LumiQuest Soft Screen

LumiQuest has the solution for lighting with your DSLR and regular film cameras for professional results at affordable prices. No, this is not a commercial but I do help to open your eyes to these great products for both conventional flash units and DSLR cameras.

LumiQuest has two new solutions to help reduce flash glare and bounce back as well as light your subject evenly without harsh shadows or hot spots. The LumiQuest line of flash attachments has been going strong and I get to try out two products that have been improved for use with your detachable flash and pop up flash on a DSLR camera.

The first product from LumiQuest is the Soft Screen that attaches to a pop up flash on most DSLR cameras such as the Canon Rebel series and Nikon D series. The diffuser fits easily on the flash when it is in the up position with a tab fitting into the shoe where a flash would fit for external flashes. The Soft Screen tab fits into the shoe than you fold the screen over the front and slide the hole over the part of the camera with the nameplate.

The front piece of material is an opaque plastic with a slight texture to softly diffuse the light when the flash goes off to give you less harsh shadows and more even lighting. The Soft Screen has an oblong hole that fits over the name plate area of the camera and if there are fitting problems you can also attach with Velcro strips.

The Soft Screen easily attaches in seconds and is handy with its small size for convenient pocket carrying or in a small camera case or bag. The Soft Screen makes for a better use of your flash for more even lighting and less flash bounce back on reflective surfaces for a much better picture.

Both the Soft Screen and the Softbox III are great products for the professional and amateur photographer for their convenient size as well as quick installation and removal. Both are great for lowering that harsh shadow and for a more even lighting of any subject that would be affected by a flash.

To show this I have taken two product shots of two items and have clipped them together one on top of the other with the top shot being the ones without the diffusers. Both shots are not altered in any way except to paste them together to show the differences in flash and diffusing.

Without Soft Screen on top.

You can see in both pictures how the background and objects are more lit up but in more of an uneven way for the top or undiffused shots. The bottom shots with the diffusers have a broader lighting but with more even distribution and less glare on the plastic parts.
