Have you ever pulled a cable out of your camera or worse from your computer and damaged the connector, I have and it ruined one USB connection in the process. I was taking pictures with my camera connected to my desktop and went the wrong way right into the USB cable, yanking it out of my desktop.
The problem was the connection is at an angle upward on the computers top so when it pulled the cable out the plastic piece inside the USB connection broke and came out with the cable. Now that makes one computer case with an unusable USB connection and one case I am not able to sell.
I review these cases and after a couple of months of use I end up installing my system in a new case and put the slightly used ones in their box to sell. For me this is not that big a deal but for many it would be at the least an inconvenience and at the worst a new computer purchase.

Of course not every accident is as bad as it could have been and the thing I really fear the most with cables connected to devices is pulling over my camera. A JerkStopper can prevent this some if you have the tether connected to the tripod in some fashion but mostly it will prevent damage to the connection if the cable is jerked out.
The JerkStopper comes in five versions that have a cable clamp that has teeth on the base and U shaped end to slide onto each other while on the cable. The other end of each JerkStopper has some kind of connection like an all plastic USB connection, telephone modem, network Ethernet, loop with clip or a flat design to tape to any surface you want.
The JerkStopper for cameras is a tethered camera that has the cable clamp on one end and a loop for holding the other end with a quick disconnect clip in the middle. Once you loop the end on your tripod or other attach point you can clamp down a cable and quickly disconnect or connect the clip when you need to.

The JerkStopper Camera Support makes a great way to manage flash, power and other cables on your camera setup and keep things from getting out of hand and possibly damaged. The cable support for both the camera and computer may not stop you from knocking something over if you walk headlong into a cable but it will stop the damage at the connector.
Many times I have pulled out the connection from my camera or computer and not knocked over my camera, this is one reason I have tried going wireless with my camera using an Eye-Fi card. Several times I have to use cables of some kind and of course with my laptop I have to use at least one or two so the JerkStopper comes in handy to prevent damage.
The JerkStopper also keeps things neat and organized so you have less mess to deal with while working around your computer or camera. JerkStopper has a great set of cable management devices that help prevent damage to your expensive equipment from cables pulling out of connections.

Tether Tools has a complete line of JerkStopper cable management devices for preventing expensive damage to your equipment that costs from $5 to $22 for a whole set.
