The Rizo Rice Cooker does not shorten the cooking time of rice or rice dishes but it does allow you to start the rice and leave it till it is cooked. There is no stirring until the rice is fully cooked and once the bell goes off letting you know it is done you should stir it to have fluffy rice.
The rice cooker does a great job of cooking the rice perfectly by not only using the correct temperature but letting the condensation from steam fall back into the rice and inner cooking pan and steaming the rice as well. Steaming vegetables and some meats also works very well but meats like beef and pork do not steam well so fish and chicken work better.
I steamed seafood, chicken and vegetables in the Rizo Rice Cooker with great results and very healthy meals using the steam setting and the steaming plate. Simply fill the inner cooking pan with water up to the steam line and place the steaming plate in the pan. Place the vegetables, fish or chicken on the plate and set the steam button.
The Rizo Cooker is large enough to cook a full serving of rice for four people but not large enough to steam many pieces of fish or chicken. You can steam several pieces of cut up fish, seafood or vegetables and have them come out very well. It mainly depends on what you’re cooking and how large it is to place in the steamer, you should have enough room around meat like fish or chicken to evenly heat each piece.
The steam works very well for meals for individuals or couples as it is the perfect size for two pieces of fish or chicken. You can also steam a bag of frozen broccoli or cauliflower from the grocery store easily in the Rizo Rice Cooker. I have steamed a wide variety of vegetables and several meats in the steamer and they all turned out well except for the pork and steak. Pork and beef just do not steam well but they did cook, however I would recommend you stick with fish and chicken.
The Rizo Rice Cooker also creates some great rice dishes like risotto and Rice-A-Roni type box mixes but the risotto is a favorite of mine. You simply heat some oil and cook any ingredients you like; seafood, onions, or vegetables and then set aside while you heat up the rice. Once the rice is heated you add that to the inner cooking pan, add the water and other ingredients.
Place the inner pan into the cooker and press the risotto button and wait the 20 minutes for your risotto to be done. Regular rice takes about 50 to 60 minutes while risotto takes about 20 minutes due to all the ingredients being heated before placing in the cooker as well as the al dente stage of cooking for risotto.
For sushi rice you use short grain rice and a little less water to cook the rice for a bit stickier rice so you can form it after cooking. The mixed rice is cooked just like white rice using the same amount of water so it fully cooks and is fluffy and not sticky.
Another dish I tried was taking a box mix of Rice-A-Roni and dumping the box in with the bag of spices and then the two cups of water the box says. I used the rice button and cooked the rice like white rice for some great rice flavored with spices and some vegetables. This worked very well and I have done some experimenting with flavored rice’s and adding some spices and vegetables during the cooking for great and varied as well as healthy rice dishes.
The Rizo Rice Cooker & Warmer makes rice several different ways and is very easy to use as well as clean. The main inner cooking pan is non stick Teflon coated and washes off easily in hot soapy water. The steaming plate and spatula are plastic and wash off just as easily as the rest and the body wipes off with a wash cloth.
Using the rice cooker is simple and there is a huge amount of interesting and easy to follow recipes on the internet as well as whole cookbooks on rice cooker recipes. Using a rice cooker frees you up to worry less about the rice and more about the rest of the meal so you can enjoy your cooking more.
