Vicks Humidifier

In the past I have bought those quick fill cool air humidifiers that have that huge water wick that you end up replacing every few weeks. The problem is they cost a fortune for the water wicks and if you leave them in too long they get really gross and smelly.

I recently purchased a warm air humidifier and just today cleaned it out to look inside at the working parts and all the mineral deposits inside. It is basically a heater element that sits in the little tub of water to boil water all day. This little tub had a quarter of an inch of mineral deposits at the bottom from a couple of weeks of use.

This is the main problem with warm air humidifiers, the mineral deposits and all the accumulation of them in and around the humidifier parts. These deposits need to be cleaned out and you end up spending time doing all this cleaning.

Enter the Vicks Warm Mist Humidifier and its clean warm mist that is really germ free. The use of a small pad to collect mineral deposits makes it cleaner and easier to use. The germ free part comes from the use of an ultraviolet lamp that kills germs before they get to the heating tub part of the humidifier.

Independent testing confirms that the UV bulb kills these germs to the percent that Vicks claims so there is no worry about false claims. You can see the testing and what germs are killed by visiting the Vicks Website or their partner Kaz where you can see the germs listed that this bulb kills as well as other information about the testing.

The UV bulb sits inside the humidifier base and is between two tubes that follow the path of the water from the tanks to the little heating tub. This heating tub or boiling cup sits in the middle of the base and is easily recognizable as the heating element of the unit.
