This would be a great switcher and converter to use for connecting a variety of devices and a computer to the same television or monitor. I found you could easily connect my computer with lower resolutions to the monitor and television and easily get viewable screens and gaming that was as good as going directly to the monitor for my system.
While changing from a normal aspect ratio like 1280x720 on my computers output to a widescreen monitor it does distort the picture slightly but it does work out just fine. I have used the monitor connected to the Key Digital switcher for a couple of weeks without problems with the aspect ratio a bit off.
Gaming and regular computer use work very well for the switcher working to convert the computers resolution up or down some but if you try to go up too much the text gets blurry. This is normal as most monitors do not scale well and will have to go down in frequency when you go up in resolution past the native resolution of the monitor.
I had no problem viewing the screen at 1280x768p 60Hz output from the Key Digital switcher while the computer was outputting 1280x720p 60Hz output. I tried gaming and watching some movies through the computer and found it worked fine but this would not be a full time setup for people who use their computer often.
I am just trying out various situations to see how much I can do with the Key Digital switcher and converter and fooled around with computers and monitors as well as connecting normal television screens with it. I had no problems connecting a television and various input devices like a computer, Blu-ray and DVD players as well as the PlayStation 3 and XBox 360 console systems.
The video from the players and consoles were great and the converting worked well when I wanted to upconvert the XBox 360 up to 1080p. I had no problems at all with any quality when playing movies from Blu-ray or a regular DVD player and quality was great for console gaming as well.
The Key Digital KD-VPHD4X1 switcher does very well with all the input devices I could throw at it as well as the movie aspects that are sometimes different for various movie formats. Instead of going into the movie menu and changing the format you can also use the remote of the Key Digital to change aspects on the television so you can match the screen aspect with the movie aspect.
The remote works well and has all the necessary controls for changing inputs, outputs and aspect ratios as well as adjusting brightness, contrast and even muting sound. The remote also allows you to use the pass through so that you have direct 1:1 ratio of input to output so you can use the switch without any converting.
The KD-VPHD4X1 switcher and converter from Key Digital is a great converter and switcher for your home theatre system as well as a switcher and converter for an all in one system including a computer. While the switcher does work with a widescreen 16:10 monitor for viewing you may be better off getting a 16:9 or even a 4:3 aspect ratio monitor and not a 16:10 widescreen as it works better with these aspect ratios and resolutions.
I really feel this would work out very well with a 1080p monitor as that would be the best native resolution for the monitor and the Key Digital switcher. Of course with a regular HD television you cannot go wrong with the Key Digital Switcher and Converter using it as a switcher for your various devices.
I highly recommend the Key Digital KD-VPHD4X1 as a great switcher and converter for your home entertainment system with plenty of features and quality.
