The Key Digital 4X1 switcher allows you to connect a very wide variety of input devices with each one using a different format for its input and being able to output to a single monitor or television with a different output. One nice feature of the 4X1 switcher is the fact that it says right on the front panel if a format is not supported.

This quick and easy display shows you if you are not supported as opposed to not getting the signal at all for quick and easy setup of a system. Once you have each input configured the switcher will remember the settings so you can power down the system into a standby mode and it will not forget each input device setting.

The output is also the best for getting high definition on the larger televisions as well as getting those lower quality devices like the XBox 360 gaming console up to the standards of your better television. You can easily change lower definition inputs such as a computer signal from a video card to the higher resolution up to 1080p and 1080i.

You can also include the audio from digital coax, digital optical Toslink or two channel RCA connections to your choice of output connections using any of these from the four source inputs. This allows you to connect four input devices with both audio and video from HDMI and separate audio to the output of HDMI and separate or integrated audio.

You can use the Key Digital 4X1 switcher not only as an upcoverter but you can have your choice of input and output connections for audio so you can use separate audio like a stereo home theatre system or separate surround sound speakers. You can output your audio to a surround sound system or home theatre Dolby Digital speaker system for the best possible audio from the separate audio connections with the Toslink or coax digital.

The Key Digital KD-VPHD4X1 switcher makes a great switcher for audio and video signals as a key piece of home theatre equipment for the total home entertainment center. I have used it in several different configurations and not only with the PlayStation 3, Blu-ray and gaming but with a Philips Blu-ray player and my Oppo DVD player and with my computer as well. I had terrific results with plenty of options for gaming and home theatre use and had clear crisp quality images as well as great sound using the switcher.

Front & Back

The converter works very well and I found image quality very good when upconverting from a lower resolution and format up to the higher 1080i and 1080p. When you go up or down in resolution there is no real loss of quality that is detectable other than that which you would expect and I found the image and audio very clear in any of the configurations I tried.

I tried out several configurations using both a 21 and 19 inch widescreen monitor as well as a 19 inch 4:3 resolution monitor to check out all the various configurations as well as quality and found the switch and converter functions worked very well. While some of the configurations on the widescreen monitors did not work out and required using the various screen aspect ratio processing features overall it worked very well.
