The OPPO DV-980H has some other great features like its USB connection for adding video, music and photos from a USB drive or flash drive for viewing video or photo slide shows or listening to music. Other features include the variety of connections that include the component, composite, HDMI and S-Video as well as the 7.1 channel surround sound as well as playing SACD or Super Audio CD. The OPPO player is also the most affordable in the OPPO line of DVD Players at about $170 or so.
The OPPO Up-Converting DVD Player may not be the best option for someone with a more expensive HDTV as most HDTV’s already have an up scaling converter built in but for the less expensive televisions these converters are not that good. The up-converting processor on expensive televisions is of course more expensive but for a less expensive and even the cheaper televisions they do not do the job of the more expensive televisions. My television is a Westinghouse 20” model that costs about $300 and does a great job of high definition television but you do get what you pay for and using the up-converting DVD player makes for some really great looking video.
This player also has some great features like the USB connection for playing audio, video and DivX that you compile on your computer for playing on your TV. Features that are common to other DVD players are also here but the main features that make this a great purchase for us middle of the road consumers are in the OPPO DV-980H.
The OPPO DV-980H plays DVD-Audio, SACD, DVD-Video and DivX video discs as well as up-converts from 420i to 1080p. The player is compatible with all kinds of discs from computers like DVD+-R/RW and CD-R/RW and plays XviD, .SRT, .SMI, .IDX and .SUB formats.
If you don’t have the money for the expensive players with the HD or Blu-Ray features and the less expensive televisions the OPPO Up-Converting DVD Player is a great option for some improved video quality with some great features often found in your more expensive DVD players or home entertainment components.
