PNY GeForce 9800 GTX+

Comparing the cost of the PNY 9800 GTX+ and the ATI HD 3870 X2 as well as the lower cost 8800 GT you really cannot go wrong with the next generation from PNY. Currently you can purchase the PNY 9800 GTX+ from Newegg for about $200 but an ATI HD 3870 X2 costs about $220.

I do have one concern about the PNY 9800 GTX+ that should be noted before purchasing this card; the fan is pushing air into your case from the rear of the card instead of pushing it out. This means you will have the warm air from the card going into your case and you should set up your cooling and system accordingly.

I find this an odd change to the usual cool air into the card from inside the case and warm air out of the case setup and so have others. While this was the only complaint I could find about the card and the only one I had with it I thought it should be mentioned.

I found it did not have any impact on my system and even with my previous case, the Ultra Products M908 I had no problems with heat buildup inside. With the much larger full tower case of the Thermaltake Spedo this is even more of a non issue, I’ll be reviewing this new case soon.

Overall the PNY XLR8 GeForce 9800 GTX+ is a great performing card with all the great features you would expect from a high end graphics solution. I had no problems what so ever with the installation or using the card and received the results I expected in gaming and benchmark scores.

I highly recommend the PNY Technologies XLR8 GeForce 9800 GTX+ for a great graphics card with all the features for today’s high end gaming.
