Lindy HDMI Switch

The Lindy HDMI Switch is the perfect way to use several HDMI or DVI devices connected to a single HDMI input television or DVI monitor. The ease of use of a remote completes this HDMI Switch and allows for worry free switching between computers, DVD players, cable boxes and other HDMI or DVI devices.

The HDMI Switch comes complete with the Switch box, power adapter and a remote with battery for easy use of the switch box from a distance. The remote works on an infrared beam so positioning is important but I had no problems using it in a medium sized living room switching from an Oppo DVD player and my PlayStation 3 along with a computer system.

Whats in the Box

The HDMI capability means all the audio and video signals pass through the single connection and the switch controls easily with the remote. Connecting the device is very simple with a separate power connection and then simply put the HDMI connections in the back for each device and the TV or monitor to the HDMI Out and you’re all set to go.

The HDMI Switch with remote does not use any drivers or software so you can use it with any operating system based computer as well as your standard HDMI devices such as the XBOX 360 with HDMI output, PlayStation 3, DVD and Blu Ray players and cable or satellite TV set top boxes with HDMI out.

The system worked so well and is easy to set up and use I had no problems and love the switching for my console systems and the computer. If you use the system with a computer or any other connection using a DVI adapter or cable you need to make sure you have separate audio for these devices.

The Lindy HDMI Switch does transfer audio through HDMI cables but DVI connections do not have any audio in them so if you are using a DVI adapter or DVI/HDMI cable you need to use a separate audio. I use the three separate audio inputs for my home theatre sound system as two of the audio connections for my computer and the third for the audio from the console systems I have connected.

I tried out the Lindy HDMI Switch in a couple of different configurations using an HDTV and DVD player as well as the PS3 and a computer for one. I took the switch upstairs to my office and tried it out with two computers, the PS3 and Xbox 3360 with an Acer LCD monitor and it works just fine here as well. I truly enjoy the convenience of being able to switch from my computer to the PlayStation 3 or the Xbox 360 and have my other computer for use separately. The switch does work just fine with two computers using the DVI connections but of course there is no audio and has to be dealt with separately.

I am currently using the HDMI Switch for video only but I have the option and capability in the future to use it for audio and video when my setup needs to be changed. That is the really nice thing with the HDMI Switch and HDMI in general; future expansion is built in as you are ready for a wide variety of HDMI situations in the future. If I get a TV for use in my office I can quickly use the HDMI Switch with a TV and HDMI connections to connect my PS3, Xbox and computer and only have to worry about the audio for the computer.

The HDMI Switch is in a nice metal case that is simple in design with the remote sensor on the front and the four HDMI connections in the back for a nice match to the usual rectangle box shapes of home theatre equipment. I tried seeing if there was any quality loss using the HDMI Switch but could not really see any at all while gaming, viewing movies and computer content. Using the switch is the same as using the cables directly to the devices and even better with enhancement for long distances of cabling.

The box has an enhance feature that adds some power to video and audio signals over distances so if you have equipment in various rooms the signal will not degrade over longer transmission lines. The enhance would be for those times when a device is in another room and the distance through the cabling would be longer than the average six foot of cabling that the usual HDMI cables are. This extra bit of help is a nice touch for setups that would require a device in another room but on my system I could not really tell if it did much as I do not have any longer cables.

The Lindy HDMI Switch 3 Port with Remote is a very nice handy HDMI switch so you can connect multiple devices to the same monitor or HDTV. I highly recommend the Lindy HDMI Switch for connecting these various devices; you can select from a selection of port numbers with remotes and a two port without a remote.
