The Blue Ribbon for Excellence goes to the Ergotron LX LCD Arm for a great desk mount monitor arm with everything you could want in one. Okay, the monitor arm is not the best product in the world but it does exactly what you want it to do with total ease and looks great as well.
The Ergotron LX Desk Mount LCD Arm is rated for monitors up to 24 inches with a weight capacity of 7 to 20 pounds and comes with a 5 year warranty. The LX Desk Mount Arm comes in silver or black and has plenty of range for its various adjustments from full rotation around the mounting pole to a good tilt and rotation of the screen from horizontal to vertical.
The Ergotron LX Desk Mount LCD Arm is a great way to get that monitor off the desk and out of the way as well as all the other uses like sharing a monitor on occasion with coworkers. The LX arm is so very easy to install and simple to use that it is a shame not to have one for your desk or computer station even at home.
The Ergotron LX Arm consists of a desk mounted pole, two metal arms that assemble together and a monitor plate for mounting your monitor on the first arm. The LX Arm comes with all the hardware and even some tools for easy assembly; the tools you may need for full assembly are a Phillips screwdriver and possibly a drill for using the hole mounted positioning.
An office or school is where this little device excels at what it does but at the home office or even the home computer it will provide you more than adequate adjustment for any person. That is the main thing with a monitor arm, being able to easily adjust the monitor for different people when they sit down.
The LX arm moves smoothly from one position to the next by simply moving the monitor from the bezel for easy adjusting in three axis of rotation and the arm also has the two movements due to the two hinge points. The monitor arm has tilt front and back, tilt rotationally into the vertical and horizontal position for the screen to be viewed at either orientation and the two swivels due to the arm.
This two swivel points of the arm are so smooth from plastic inserts that allow for an almost fluid like pivot point for really smooth action. The two points have a sleeve of plastic as well as a plastic washer between the metal pieces so there are no metal to metal contacts.
The LX Arm does a great job of holding your monitor in any position you want as well as the additional height adjustment of being able to loosen the hex screw holding the arms height and moving the entire arm assembly on the mount. This allows a separate height adjustment of the arms up and down when you first install the device for your monitor and allows easy adjusting in the future.
Connecting the monitor is as simple as screwing in four screws on the plate that your monitor is attaching to or four extra ones if you need to use the 100mm attachment option. Simply lay the monitor on a protected surface and for 75mm mounting holes attach the smaller plate that is on the first arm to the back of your monitor. If you have the 100mm mount holes on your monitor simply attach the additional attachment plate to the monitor and then the arm.
The rest of the mounting system is simply the mount pole and the second arm. You have your choice of attaching the monitor mount pole to the desk or other surface in the bolt through a hole in the surface or a clamp. Both accessories come with the LX LCD Arm as well as all the hardware and tools you need for attaching a monitor except a drill for drilling a hole in the surface and a Philips screw driver.
Using the clamp was easy and pretty self explanatory but the instructions do include all the necessary steps for mounting and adjusting the arm in either configuration. The clamp is sturdy, so is the bolt though, and mounts easily on the side of a table or desk for installing the monitor arm near the edge. The hole works equally as well and just takes a few more minutes to change the clamp assembly over to that type of mounting configuration.
