Razer Piranha Gaming Communicator

The Razer Piranha Gaming Communicator may be a fancy name for Piranha headset but the quality and performance are what counts and the Piranha is a great product no matter what you call it.

Razer Piranha

Razer continues to make some excellent products but with a few small concerns the Razer Piranha does end up being a good set of Gaming Communicator. The Razer Piranha is a really good sounding headset and performs just fine; I only have a problem with the fit of the headset on my own head.

The Razer Piranha is a nice looking headset and has both the earphones and microphone for gaming communication. The headset includes a nice USB connection for running the Blue LED’s on the headset pieces and the volume control but this is not a USB sound device. The ear pieces get their sound from the 3.5mm jack and the microphone has the separate 3.5mm jack for speech.

The headset has a very long braid covered cable at about ten feet for plenty of length to play games even across a smaller room. I really like the length of the cord for being able to sit on my exercise bike and watch movies on the computer across the room and listen to it on the Razer Piranha. This way I do not disturb my wife in the same room as she works on her computer or watches her own movie.

The headset has the three cables split about two feet from the connectors so if you do plug the two audio jacks into the back of your system and the USB to the front there is no problem about length to each area. The length is probably a bit too long if your primary use for the headset is at your desktop computer at a desk but it is very nice to have this length for a much more varied use like stereo systems. I enjoy having the option to have the length and get the cables out of the way when I’m biking and watching a streamed movie on my PSP from my PlayStation 3.

The Razer Piranha sounds great whether on a computer system playing movies, music or gaming but equally as well from a PlayStation Portable or an MP3 player. The volume control is fully functional with or without the USB connector plugged in so works well with MP3 players. The addition of the USB connection and the pretty blue lights makes for a nice added touch if you’re into the aesthetics of your gaming devices but it is really not necessary. I simply Velcro’d the USB connection to the rest of the cable at the split and use the headphone and microphone connections myself.
