Digital PenCam

The Pen Camera is a really cool product and one that was sure to be introduced by someone so 1800 Endoscope, a company that specializes in small cameras now has their very own model. The 1800PC PenCam is a small camera much like an endoscope used by physicians and other medical professionals.

The company that sells this cool product should know a thing or two, or three, about small cameras; they resell endoscopes and other imaging systems that they purchase from hospitals and others after refurbishing. This may sound gross and to tell the truth I thought so too but the idea is perfect for smaller medical clinics and even veterinarians who cannot afford the newest and most up to date equipment.

The company buys the endoscopes and other equipment and fully refurbishes them to like new condition and resells them. This does not however include the 1800PC pen camera that is a new product and has been manufactured for non medical uses. The PenCam is a small camera that reminds me very much like the pen lights we used in the military with two AA batteries in a pen like flashlight.

The camera attaches to your computer using a USB connection and runs off an imaging program much like a web camera does. The program is available for download from their website as the drivers on the CD are outdated for Windows Vista. I had no problems getting the camera to work after getting the correct drivers and the PenCam is really neat.

The PenCam is about 5 and a half inches long and the thickness of a marker, the perfect size to be probing around inside your computer. The PenCam is the perfect computer enthusiast tool for peering inside the heart and guts of your PC. I can also think of many other, not gross, ideas for the PenCam like automotive and home do it yourself applications.
