The tips and hints are things that are common helps such as using a garlic press or uncommon ones that you may have noticed but never really understood such as why some cookies come out thin and almost candy like while others are almost cake like and thick. The right amount of a certain ingredient has a lot to do with a recipe and using a variation such as more sugar or eggs or using baking soda over baking powder can change the type of baking you get as an outcome.

They have charts and helpful pictures showing differences and how to do things such as testing doneness of cookies and steaks to help you decide for yourself when you try the recipe. One really good example of a small change to create a big outcome, at least in their opinion as I have not tried it yet, is browning butter for more bold, nutty butterscotch flavor in Brown Sugar Cookies. These small tips to make the recipe come out better is the kind of things I enjoy and find more useful than a straight out recipe that tells you what to put in the mix and how long to cook it.

This helpful step by step recipe along with cooking techniques make for a better and easier to follow as well as helpful cookbook. I really do not even consider this a full fledged cookbook but more of a kitchen cooking guide as well as a cookbook due to the addition of so many useful tip[s, hints and ratings.
